He was always touching her.

Sometimes it was an arm thrown possessively over her shoulder. Sometimes it was a paw placed on the small of her back. Sometimes it was a kiss planted on her cheek. And sometimes it was simply his paw entwined with hers, but it was always this last one that hurt the most.

Pikachu was always touching Buneary and it made Sylveon sick to watch.

How she longed to be in her position. How she longed to have Pikachu's attention on her, instead of on that pesky rabbit. Sylveon would have given anything, anything, just to have the electric mouse look at her with that much fondness. Arceus, at this point she would have given her right foreleg just to have him pay attention to her for more than two seconds.

What's so great about her anyway? Sylveon thought bitterly, watching Pikachu and Buneary from the bushes. She's pretty enough, sure, but nothing compared to me. And she's so annoying, going on and on about him all the time! How could he like something like that? I've never harassed him; I've always let him have his personal space. What does she have that I don't?

Sylveon was about to leave, but before she could move she suddenly found herself looking directly into Pikachu's eyes. She froze as the electric-type stared at her, his eyes growing cold. After a few moments of intense staring, he nodded slightly in a gesture that clearly meant, "Leave before it's too late."

Grateful that Pikachu wouldn't set Buneary on her, Sylveon turned and ran back towards camp, where the other Pokemon were relaxing. Hawlucha was sparring with Luxray while Noivern and Talonflame had an aerial race. Greninja and Braixen were sitting a ways away, the fox Pokemon's head resting on the frog's shoulder. Sylveon felt bile rise up in her throat upon seeing Greninja and Braixen. It wasn't that she wasn't happy for her friend-she was-but why did everyone have more luck with romance than her?

"Hey, Sylveon. Where have you been?" Chespin greeted her, blushing slightly.

"Oh, hey Chespin. Uh, nowhere in particular," Sylveon answered, looking for a way to escape the grass-type.

It was no secret that Chespin had liked Sylveon ever since she joined the group as an Eevee. Unfortunately for him, he had spent most of his time chasing her so she despised him.

"So, you want to go train together sometime?" Chespin offered, making a face that Sylveon assumed was supposed to be confident or suggestive. "I promise an, uh, interesting experience for you."

"In your dreams," Sylveon scoffed.

Chespin rolled his eyes. "Honestly, I don't go around asking girls out that often. You should feel special."

There are times when a guy just knows that what he's just said to a girl was the wrong thing. This was one of those times.

Sylveon glared at Chespin. "I should feel special because the great Chespin has lowered himself to ask me out on a date? I feel special all on my own, thanks," she spat.

Chespin opened and closed his mouth like a goldfish, looking horrified. It would have been quite amusing if she hadn't been so angry.

"Do you have anything else to say, my liege?" she sneered.

"N-no," Chespin stammered, backing away.

"Good," Sylveon snapped, turning and storming away. She heard Bunnelby call out a greeting to her but chose to ignore it, no longer in the mood to talk to any of her friends.

Sylveon walked behind Serena's tent, where a puddle of water from the previous night's rainfall lay on the ground. The fairy-type studied her reflection carefully, trying to spot any flaws that might have turned Pikachu away from her. Was it the fact that she stood on four legs instead of two? Was it the fact that her fur was pale pink? Was it the fact that her eyes were pale, so pale as to almost be soulless?
