Scandal 48 – In which the assassination succeeds
It had been said that today was one of the most anticipated day of the year of course, excluding the Royal Wedding that happened six months ago. Still, the engagement of the Duke of Somerset had sent anticipation for he was going to marry Lady Veronica Carmichael, daughter and cousin of the Earl of Rosslyn.
It was to be the second wedding of the year after the Royal Wedding of course. Everyone knew, the Carmichael and Seymour would pay all expense to this engagement ball along with the wedding that was coming in three months time.
The Carmichael especially would see to it that Lady Veronica would have the grandest ball.
Entertainment shows in United Kingdom had featured the engagement ball, it also somehow shadowed today’s annual charity polo match but of course it would, not every day a duke got himself engaged.
What it had not been said was what was that somehow behind all the fluttery feelings, all the excitement and anticipation over the ball and polo match was despair and dread. Only few felt that despair and dread.
And one of them was Cassandra herself.

Hindi alam ni Cassandra kung bakit hindi siya makapakali, maayos naman ang lahat para sa engagement ball mamaya at papunta na sila ngayon sa polo match. Wala naman siyang dapat ipag-alala pwera nalang siguro kay James at Hunter.
Siguro ayun nga lang yun. Nangangamba parin siya na baka mag-away ang dalawa. Hindi niya alam kung bakit nandito ngayon si Hunter, ou engagement ngayon ng pinsan nito pero ni minsan sa pitong taon na kinasal siya kay James, ni minsan hindi nagpakita si Hunter.
Kaya ngayon nakakapagtaka lang na nandito si Hunter.
Gusto niyang kausapin si Hunter, sa totoo lang kaso nangako siya kay James at ngayon mas pipiliin niya na tuparin yung pangakong iyon at wag makipag-usap kay Hunter dahil sa huli si Hunter ang pwedeng maging dahilan kung bakit mag-aaway na naman sila ni James.
Pagod na siyang makipag-away.
Narinig niyang nagbukas yung connecting door at lumabas si James na nakasuot na ng polo outfit niya. Napangiti siya pero kahit sa pag-ngiti niyang iyon hindi parin mawala yung pangamba.
Hindi niya alam pero sa loob loob niya natatakot siya. Sa ano, hindi niya alam.
“What do you think?” Tanong ni James.
“You look dashing.” Ngiti niya dito. Tumango si James at sinundan ni Cassandra ito habang naglakad ito palapit sa vanity upang kunin yung gloves nito. Nang sinusuot na ito ni James ay dun lalo siya natakot, hindi niya alam kung bakit. “James… never mind.”
She mentally berated herself for thinking such foolish notion. She had never been a superstitious person so why start now. James would be fine.
