Prologue

I was enjoying a nice day at my friend's house with my best friends as we played cops and robbers. Currently, it was Stiles and me as the cops as we chased Scott around his backyard. It was like any other weekend as we just came to each other's house to just play games.

As we played, a haunting howling was heard followed by others. It caused me to stop in my tracks as I looked toward the direction of the preserves. I just stood there, unsure of what to do. Something within me was telling me to go toward the howling but I knew it was also a bad idea. It was a warning and a call for help.

I never knew why I had the ability I had but they were there. I was able to hear, run, lift things better than any kid in my class. I never thought it was strange, just that I was unique that way. Mom encourages me to embrace it all so it wasn't odd to me. Scott and Stiles were always impressed by it but when I was around my female friends, I suppressed it as they didn't see it as something very girly.

"Juls?" I heard Stiles call out to me.

His sudden calm voice pulled me from my episode.

With a smile, I turned to him, "Sorry, I thought I heard something."

"Like what?" Scott asked, coming over to us.

I shrugged, "Not sure really. I think it was an animal, but it could have been a dog nearby."

"Juliette!?" My mother's voice called out to me as she stood by the back door to Scott's place.

I turned over to her as she motioned me to come over to her.

"Mom? What's wrong?" I asked clearly feeling her worry in her voice.

The scent of fear was clearly coming off of her as she took a hold of my hand, "We have to go home now."

"Why?" I asked looking back to my best friends, "What's going on?"

"We just have to go home," she insisted, "Once there, I will explain what is happening, okay?"

I could only nod as she began to pull me into the house. I gave Scott and Stiles a quick wave before I lost sight of them. Melissa, Scott's mom, was also there watching with worry in her eyes. Something must have happened to cause my mother to act this way. It scared me to my core. The howling was so haunting to me and to have her being like this soon after made me worry as well. I gave Scott's mom a wave as my mother excused us out of her home.

My mother and I did not talk until we were safe behind the locked door of our house. Once she made sure everything was okay and safe around the house, she knelt before me. She looked into my eyes with desperation as she just took me in. Like she was trying to remember me in case she forgets.

"Mom, you're scaring me..." I finally broke our silence.

She pulled me into her arms as she spoke, "I know sweetie, I know I am acting very strange but I think it's time that you knew the thing you will come across after this day, especially when you are much older."

I allowed her to pull me into the living and sit me down beside her on our couch. I bit my lip as she took a deep breath before she began to explain everything. What I am and about my father. I never knew who he was nor did she ever tell me about him but that he knew I existed. He stayed clear of me to keep me out of the eyes of his enemies.

"That's why you are able to do and hear things that many people can't," she explained, "You and your father are werewolves. You will soon be experiencing things that can cause people to want to hurt you. That's another reason your father wanted to keep his distance. He wanted to be around but he knew the dangers that would bring."

"So..." I began to think, as best as any ten-year-old could, "I'm weird?"

"No, you are just unique," she laughed, "I will help you as much as I can."

"What will happen to me?" I asked.

She took my small hand in her hand as she spoke up calmly, "Nothing you haven't already experienced, but once you are older you will go through some changes and I will have to keep you at home on the day of the full moon until you are able to go about your day during that time."

"Will I hurt people?" I asked, fear in my voice, "Will I hurt Stiles and Scott?"

"No sweetie," she pulled me into a hug, "You will be fine as long as you keep your emotions controlled and control over your abilities. You may even keep them safe in the long run, but you must never tell them what you are. Unless it comes out, but this conversation must never leave this house."

"What if we move?" I asked honestly.

That got my mom to laugh before kissing my head, "This is our secret. So it keeps between us, alright?"

"Okay!" I smiled up at her.

Going through publishing to recall major events as I slowly come back to writing for the series.  Mainly fixing grammatical errors, maybe add a bit of the story to make it flow better.
