damn i haven't written about cats in a while, forgot how fun it is (fun fact: writing Warrior fanfics is how i got into writing :D)

(warning for bit of blood and guns (also you could file this with animal abuse so there's that))

   ~*~

"Hurry!" she ushered, her broad white wings flapping behind her and barely keeping her hovering.

"I'm going fast as I can!" her partner hissed in back, hastily leaping from branch to branch in attempt to keep up. "I can't fly like you Pearl!"

Pearl let out a huff and continued to soar besides the gray and white tabby, occasionally boosting herself back up into the air. "Well be quick! I can't keep slowing down for you Jellie!"

They could hear the footsteps of the humans behind them and their garbled yells that meant nothing to them other than anger.

Jellie's ears perked up the sound of a gun cocking and her eyes widened. "Pearl Watch out-!"

The loud blast of a shotgun and Pearl yowled in pain, gleaming red blood dripping from the hole in her wing. She was sent crashing to the ground with a sickening crack that made Jellie wince and flatten her ears in horror.

"Pearl!" Jellie wasted no time in leaping from her tree branch and bounding over to Jellie, protectively standing over her and flexing her claws that crackled with neon blue electricity. She glared up at the men and drew her lips back in a snarl. "Stay back!"

The humans meowed some gibberish to each before one bent down to pick up Jellie. She hissed and clawed at his hand, sending a jolt through him. "You won't touch her!" she spat, flicking her tail back and forth.

"Move," a clear voice meowed. The humans shifted and a lithe tom stalked forward, the black spotted marking on his tan pelt rippling slightly. Jellie quickly spotted the bright red collar around his neck and growled.

"Traitor!" she spat. "You sided with humans! I can't believe you!"

He sighed and stooped his head down to her level, pale green eyes soft with regret. "I'm sorry, but it's easier if you with you," he murmured. "I don't want to do this anymore than you do."

Even though she heard the shuffling behind her, the gray and white tabby did nothing but glare at the beige tom. "If you really didn't want to do this," she hissed, feeling a pressure on her neck. "Then you would have helped us instead of run with them."

Then her world went black.

She awoke to a loud yowl and she instantly stiffened, the fur on her neck starting to rise.

"Oh, you're awake," said a voice near her. Jellie tried to properly turn but found her movement blocked by thin metal bars surrounding her on all sides. Instead, she turned to her head to face whoever had spoken.

Jellie was faced with a thick-furred black tom that had a stark patch of white on his chest, a thin strip of white running down the bridge his nose. He stared at her with rich green eyes filled with boredom.

"Where am I?!" Jellie demanded, partly glad there was a border dividing them so he couldn't attack her.

He simply rolled her eyes and laid his head in his paws, thick tail brushing his nose. "You're in the Adoption Center," he replied nonchalantly. "Can't you see?" He flicked his tail towards the commotion going on outside the metal bars trapping her.

Humans of all shapes and colors were milling around and meowing to each other, some of them holding cages like the one trapping her. A small human (a human kitten?) was wailing and pointing it's hairless paw at a certain cage as a normal sized human kept softly at it. That must have been the one that woke me up, Jellie thought.

Her eyes widened seeing a human in a unnaturally bright blue pelt picked up one of the cages in front of a box and open the front. The box shifted for a moment and then the human closed the box and put the now-empty cage back. A pair of humans meowed happily, handed the blue-pelted one some green stuff (leaves, she presumed), and then picked up the box and walked away.

"Are they gonna take me away too?" she asked the tom, who had now started to idly groom himself. "In that tiny stuffy box?"

"Not in the box," he meowed, licking his white-tipped paws and swiping it over his ears. "The box is for kittens." He paused for a moment. "Well, I guess that's kinda worse actually, but relish in the fact you don't have to go in there. Oh, and yes a human will probably take you away soon."

"Soon?!" Jellie shrieked. "I just came here! And why are they even taking us?! We've done nothing to them!" Her tail flicked erratically and her patched fur was bristling.

The tom sighed and set down his paw, curling his tail over them. "Maybe so. But they still don't like us." He looked down, his indiscernible expression gone and replaced with one of guilt. "Just pray you don't end up like Maui..."

"Who's that?"

"Maui got forced into going on hunting groups with humans. He's got heightened senses and such so they like him I guess. And well..." The black tom paused, glancing back up at Jellie. "It really hurts him. He came back earlier today and was absolutely heartbroken. Said he had to watch a she-cat's wing get shot..."

Jellie perked up at his words, straightening herself. "A she-cat's... wing?" she repeated quietly, to which the tom nodded. "What does uh, Mew? Maw?"

"Maui."

"Yes, Maui. What does Maui look like?"

"He's a beige color with black spots," the tom described, thoughtfully staring at the patched tabby. "Kinda thin but also pretty strong looking."

"Th-that's the one who took me and Pearl..." Jellie murmured, her eyes so wide you could see the whites.

"Ah, Pearl's her name?" the tom purred, his tone a bit lighter now. "What's your name actually? I'm Alice."

Jellie smiled a bit, her fur settling. "I'm Jellie."

   ~*~

okay for context, Jellie and Pearl and Maui and Alice and all the other cats in the shelter are a sub-species of cats called Muri and each have different abilities/powers. Humans have for whatever reason decided they're too dangerous to be left in the wild and are trying to domesticate all of them. And now i've developed headcanons for youtuber's cats and i regret my life decisions :')

also literally all of them have green eyes wtf ya'll (also aren't Maui, Pearl, and possibly Benji pure-breeds?? egyptian mau i think) Marmite, one of Python's cats, has yellow eyes i think but that's it lol

(fuck now i want to make a chapter about my headcanons for all the cats ;-;)

(also also, of Cleo's two cats, which one is Glados and which is Atlas?? i can't tell)
