The bonfire crackles quietly on the sand as everyone huddles around. Couples cuddle, kissing and giggling softly. You scoff, taking a pull from the bottle in your hand. "Fuck love."

You say this, but you're secretly envious. You want someone to wake up next to. You want someone to cuddle with and eat dinner with and to kill the spiders that always seem to cross your path. You want to hear someone say "I love you". It's been so long since you've heard those three words from someone that isn't family or just a friend.

A chilly wind blows, bringing in an icy sea breeze that makes you shiver. "Hey, it's getting cold. Let's keep drinking inside, yeah?" one of the guys around the fire speaks up, drawing his coat around his girlfriend's shoulders.

As everyone that's around the fire gets up and begins to head inside, you stay put, staring into the flames. "Y/N, are you coming?" An acquaintance that you vaguely recall introducing herself earlier as the girlfriend of one of the boys in the group pauses when she realizes you haven't moved.

"Nah." You give her a smile and a dismissive wave of the hand that comes off as perfectly nonchalant. "I like being by the fire. I'll head in when I run out of beer."

"Okay," she replies. "I'll fix you a plate of leftover barbecue. It'll be in the microwave if you get hungry later."

You feel your chest flood with warmth. "Thank you."

The girl grins, shooting you a wink as she turns to head towards the beach house. "I got you."
She's been so nice since the moment you met her. You have to invite her out for drinks when you get back home.

You sit back and gaze up at the sky, filled with countless stars. You feel so small. You think about everyone back at the beach house and how they're all coupled up. A tear slips down your cheek; you quickly swipe it away. "Fuck," you mutter, shaking your head. You're beginning to regret coming. The only reason you came this weekend was because you had hoped to see Jin. He responded to the invite on Facebook, so you did the same. You had always had a little thing for him. You knew he had a girlfriend, but the knowledge of her hot, gorgeous self didn't do anything to dispel your feelings for Jin at all.

"Hey." A sharp coldness hits your cheek, making you flinch. "You alright?" Your old best friend Jin smiles as he takes a seat beside you. "Why are you out here by yourself?"

"I just...didn't feel like being around...all that," you reply, gesturing toward the beach house. "Too many couples acting all cute and perfect. Makes me sick." You smile wryly, taking a drink.

"Ah," Jin hums, nodding. "Yeah. I understand. I'm kinda feeling the same way."

"What happened to that...model you were dating?" Your heart skips a beat as soon as the question leaves your mouth. Sure, you and Jin are old friends, but it's been so long since you've seen him. Do you even have a right to ask? Do you think he knows that you creep on his Instagram every once in a while?! "Why didn't she come? I've always wanted to bask in the glow of the famous and beautiful." You nudge him in the ribs, giving him a cheeky smirk.
