George noticed the difference in Lyra as soon as the group rejoined them in Mr. Weasley's room.
What was even more concerning when he tried to ask Ginny if something had happened, she wouldn't answer.
During the car ride back to the house Lyra remained quiet. He watched her closely as she gazed out the window in thought.
When they pulled up to the house and everyone was out of the car, he stopped her short.
She turned around to face him and put on a not so convincing smile.
"Let's take a walk down to that payphone. Maybe we can give your parents a ring to say Merry Christmas."
Her smile became real but sad. "Good idea."
He held his arm out to her, and she took it, snuggling close to him as they walked.
It was already dark out, and the street was silent except for them. Fat snowflakes fell slowly, dancing in and out of the pools of light from the streetlamps.
"I was thinking," George began, "Maybe we'd head to your parent's place tomorrow, and stay for a couple of days."
"Oh, George we don't have to do that what about your dad?"
"Dad's doing fine, plus we can pop back real quick if we fancy a visit."
She subconsciously snuggled closer to him. "That would be nice," She said quietly.
He stopped walking, jerking her to a stop as well. She squinted up at him, not being able to see his face due to the fact they were between street lamps.
He reached down and gently stroked her face. "what's on your mind love?"
Her cheeks flushed red. "We ran into someone from school today at the hospital... I can't say who, I don't think they would be okay with me telling people..."
"Did it not go well?"
"No." She sighed "It was sad, they were very sad." and she was hurt, but she didn't tell him that. Lyra felt selfish for being hurt by Neville's reaction. Not that he never told her...but that he thought she would laugh... and that she was the only one his grandmother didn't know....
"Mmm seems like a bit more than that," George said knowingly.
"Are you sure your not a mind reader Weasley?"
"Darling, you're not exactly subtle."
She smiled now and turned her face into his hand. It was cold on her warm skin.
"They weren't very happy to see us.... and I was a bit hurt because I thought we were friends. But I feel silly for being upset, and a bit childish. Clearly, they were just hurting, and I shouldn't just make it about me."
George snorted. "Lyra, somehow I doubt you're making it about you. Your not a very selfish person Love."
"No, I suppose I could do no wrong in your eyes huh Weasley?"
He wrapped his other hand around her waist and pulled her close "Oh you do plenty wrong, being selfish just isn't in your nature."
She rested into his chest and breathed him in. "You underestimate me entirely George. I can be plenty selfish."
"Dance with me?"
The question caught her completely off guard. She pulled away. "What?"
She could make out his smirk, her eyes adjusted to the dark now.
"I was just thinking, about this time last year we would have been dancing at the Yule Ball," he looked up at the sky "it's no ballroom but, it made me want to dance with you again."
