Chapter 16

The next morning, I begin looking for potential places to live in for a while. Apartments are most essential and top priority on the list due to being less expensive and there are things you don't have to worry about when you own a house.

"Onii-chan, mom and dad left the house to go to work. You can come out now and eat breakfast that I made."

Komachi informed me, yawning after saying the whole sentence. She then went back to her room to go to sleep.

She must've gotten home extremely late to be that tired in the afternoon. But I can't blame her, but I've been through worse.

"Where did you go last night?"

I said to her, as I can tell she heard me through the wall that separates us.

"Me and my friends went to every mall in town. There were so many things to buy but I realized that I was broke so all I could do was try them on and out them back. After that, we went to one of my friend's house and did some karaoke and-"

I proceed to ignore her next words, realizing that I was gonna waste precious minutes of time listening nonsense. If the word 'boyfriend' was involved, I would already be in her room telling her why she has one and who the boyfriend is. Luckily, she doesn't have one forever which is good news to me.

After a few more minutes of searching endlessly, there was an apartment of my liking that I would like to rent. It looks pretty advanced in technology while being less expensive than others.

I'll bookmark that website for now. Now I have to look for a vehicle of my fitting. I'm not a husband, nor do I have a girlfriend, so I think I should get a smaller car.

It also has to be manual or at least offers it.

A couple more minutes of searching, I finally found a great offer.

A Honda Civic 2020 for $19,999. It offered a manual transmission and that is all I need for me to purchase it. It isn't a family car which is an extra bonus.

Could you imagine be having children? Not that I hate them. I just see no point of getting a girlfriend because if I am KIA, I would just hurt my potential girlfriend or wife.

I've also heard stories from people in my platoon that you shouldn't be married at a young age. Some of their wives cheat on them and stole all their army money they worked hard for quite a long time. Sometimes I wonder how the woman who does nothing, gets all the army money somehow. America, am I right? Now I have a slight fear of getting a girlfriend that would possibly become my wife.

Enough about marriage and children.

After yesterday occurred, there were a lot of things to say and a lot of things that cannot be described with words.

But if there is one thing I would list.

He's changed...

Hours of being lured and given clues by Komachi-san's text messages, I was led to a chair in Hayama's high school reunion party.

I had no reason to participate in it. The only reason why I came there was because of him.

The man who I lost contact for 4 years. After his last letter had been sent and after I read it, I begin to fear for his death. There is a low chance to die during your service, but it was never 0. At this point, statistics don't even matter. It's whether you're lucky or not.

And it seems that he was lucky after all.

He was still alive. And he's back..

Our first interaction was awkward as it was supposed to be. Seeing a friend you haven't talked to for a long time just annihilates something between that friendship. It's like we have to build the friendship all over again.
