you fiddle with the zipper on your sleeping bag as the phone ring. he picks up.
P | hey audrey.
A | hey. what's up?
you can hear your heartbeat in your chest.
P | nothing. i mean... yeah, something.
A | what is it?
he looks down at his hands.
A | come on, payton.
P | i called you to tell you about a few things i'm doing soon.
A | okay...
P | i don't know how you're going to react. i don't want to make you upset or anything.
A | okay? what is it?
P | at the end of next month i'm going on tour with my friends for almost two months.
A | tour?
P | yeah. my manager will be driving us down the west coast to go meet a bunch of fans. i'm releasing my music soon so i'll be able to preform that too.
A | is that it?
P | what?
A | you were nervous to tell me that?
P | uhh, yeah.
A | no, payton, that's great! that sounds so exciting!
P | but we won't be able to see each other for a long time.
A | that's okay. i'll just have to see you before you leave.
P | yeah. you could come out here. meet my family.
you smile.
A | that would be fun.
P | we'll have to plan on it. maybe the week before i leave.
A | yeah. i'll be out of school by then.
P | okay. it's a plan. as long as your parents let you.
A | i'll make them let me.
you laugh. he smiles back at you.
P | okay. you can go back and hang out with your friends.
you make a pouty face.
P | awe don't give me that face.
A | i miss you.
P | i miss you to bab- audrey.
he says embarrassed. you burst out laughing. the both of you. you take a photo of him. he reaches for his phone and takes one of you. you smile and roll your eyes.
P | okay bye cutie
he smiles
P | i'll talk to you later.
A | talk to you later pay.
P | muah.
he hangs up. you open your camera roll and look at the photo.
