Jr: This is gonna be something that can be scary in Trench Warfare

Nana: Let me guess, WW1

Jr: Yes

The Video starts it's thing.

First World War — Technology — Chlorine Gas.

Katsuma: C-chlorine g-gas

Inko: I don't like the sound of that

In 1914, a chemist called Fritz Haber, offered his knowledge to the German Army. He soon began experimenting with chlorine gas to be used in trench warfare.

Some of the students shrugged from flashbacks at the camp.

In April of 1915, 150 tons of lethal chlorine gas was used by the German forces against the French Army at Ypres.

Yuga: NOT THE FRENCH

The French soldiers witnessed yellow line clouds with a distinctive smell of pineapple and pepper slowly drifting towards their trenches.

Yuga: RUN AWAY MY PEOPLE, DON'T BREATH IN THE GAS

Hanata: I don't think they know what it is yet

The French infantry assumed that the Germans were merely using a smokescreen at first, until they started to complain about pains in their chest and a burning sensation in their throat.

Momo: Why didn't they bring out gas masks with them

Jr: They didn't have gas masks with them before

As the realization of a gas attack became apparent, the French ran away from the area, putting a gap in the Allied line. The German Army was hesitant to advance forward due to concerns about the chlorine gas would do to them.

Deku: But, what if the gas blows back at them instead of the enemy

This enabled Canadian and British troops to recapture the position before German forces could break through.

Eri: W-what does chlorine gas do to you

Chlorine gas would destroy the respiratory organs of the unfortunate victim and lead to a slow death by asphyxiation, whether it was an important factor of gas attacks.

A/N: No Covid 19 Joke here

Eri: That's scary

Olley: That's what war is, it's always violent and scary

When the British Army launched a gas attack on the 25th September 1915, the wind blew it back into the faces of British troops.

Nezu: This is the biggest problem with gas, they can easily be blown by the wind which is a big problem when doing a gas attack

This was solved in 1916 when gas shells were used heavy artillery, increasing the range of attack. So, how would you counter a gas attack?

Denki: Hold your breath

Iida: Stay far away from the gas

Momo: Wear or make your own gas mask, but not like my Quirk

At first, Allied troops used cotton pad masks or even handkerchief that had been soaked in urine.

Everyone: EWW

Mahoro: WHY URINE

Kota: Can't they use something else other than urine

Jr: They didn't have anything else with them before they officially made gas masks

The ammonia in the pad it was discovered would neutralize the chlorine. As the war progressed, soldiers were equipped with gas masks and anti-asphyxiation respirators, which were more efficient means of protection from gas.
