A Father's Duty

Barry's POV

So I am in my godfathers living room because he called me and told me to come over here. He walks back into the living room and reaches me a cup of coffee. "It isn't poisoned. Don't give me that look. Santana is covering for you in the lab today because according to her you haven't slept in 2 weeks." He says. I look away and take a drink of the coffee. I cough startled at how strong it is. "God what did you put in it." I ask. "I assume you have stopped your alcohol intake from your coffee then. Because your the reason I make my coffee so strong, and keep alcohol over there at the coffee bar. It is how you normally get your coffee." He says. "I never stopped my coffee intake with alcohol but Santana hid my Courvoisier and they won't give me but only one shot in my coffee at Jitters because Iris told them about how I am pretty much living off coffee and no other coffee shop around puts alcohol in their coffee, and they won't give me really strong coffee either. So yeah." I say. "She did you dirty didn't she." He says and I snort. "You can say that." I say. "So Barry you have been my best CSI in the department since you got your degree when you were just 17. I had only met you as Sebastian Smythe when you were a baby. So I couldn't have hired you because you were someone I am technically related to. But I know there has been rumors going around that I let you join the force because you were related to me. Is that what has got you so upset." He asks. "Sort of I guess. It kind of ties into the main problem." I say leaning back. "Nora called me last night as well. Asking if you were insane. She told me that you got offered a job on the Presidential Team as their CSI for terrorist attacks and attacks on the president and things like that but you turned it down. Why Barry. That could have been a big shot in your career. I mean your only what, 29 almost thirty. What has you turning it down." He asks. I sigh on rest my elbows on my knees. "Central City is my home. Where my family is. If I took the job I would have to leave the familiarity of my home and drag Nora with me to Washington D.C. where she would have to make all new friends, lose what family she has gained in the past 3 months of her being here. I couldn't do that to her." I say. You see my godfather doesn't know about me being the flash yet. "Where did Nora come from in the first place..." He says but my phone rings. I look at him with a raised eyebrow. "If it is important they will call back." He says and I turn my phone off. As he is about to start speaking again my phone rings again. He nods and I pick it up. "Dude why didn't you pick up the first time! You normally pick up on the first ring not the second call!" Cisco exclaims. "I am with my godfather currently Cisco. I told you if it is 'Star Labs' related to message me. Did the 'dagger' appear again." I ask abbreviating Star Labs and Dagger. Because Star Labs is code for meta alert or escapee, and Dagger is code for Cicada. "No actually. Nora is what happened. She didn't do anything wrong of course. The squirt is to innocent to do anything wrong." Cisco says and my mind immediately jumps to two answers. Nora was injured or taken, or she did something really bad for her to have Cisco to call me. "Yeah well everyone thought I was innocent but look at me now. What happened. She is my daughter. Trauma is bound to happen to her." I say. He snorts. "You aren't wrong. We are at the DEO right now, bring your godfather because the camera footage I am watching right now is telling me he won't let you go anytime soon. Rob is in the doorway to so bring him to I guess. He can't hurt nothing. I mean he knows more than your godfather does so yeah." He says. "Why are you there. What happened to Nora." I growl out and he yelps in response. "Just get here and we will tell you! Bye!" He says hanging up frantically. "Imma kill the bitch if he has something to do with it." I growl out referring to Cicada. I grab their arms after pocketing my phone and run us to the DEO. I storm down the steps. "You weren't kidding when you said he was pissed off. That only took him 1 minute to get here when it should have taken him 8." Kara says. "Where the hell is my daughter!" I yell. Cisco and Caitlin look down. "We were at the coffee shop with her today taking her out for a treat, and Reign who is an evil Kryptonian who Kara is dealing with came in with Cicada and we tried to protect her we really did but Cicada blocked Frost out and Reign pinned me down by the throat. We tracked them down to National City so that is why we are here." Cisco says not looking up. "Barry-" Caitlin goes to say something but I already know what she is going to say. "Don't apologize. You did nothing wrong. You did all you could. It's my fault. I shouldn't have let her change my mind. I knew it was to dangerous but I let her win me over." I say running my hands down my face. "What do you mean it is you fault. And what did she change your mind on." Alex asks. "One reason why she was so mad at me when she first came back was I chipped her in the future. I used a power dampening chip. To block off her speed. When she deactivated it so she could run back in time. She wanted to meet me but was pissed off. When Cicada first came around he came after me as Barry Allen. He can sense metahumans and I was afraid he would sense Nora when she was out in public. I was going to re-chip her but she practically begged me not to and for me to train her and teach her how to use her speed. I pretty much broke down and gave in because I could never tell her no when she is practically begging me. Now Cicada and whatever her name is have my daughter because I gave in to her." I say running my hand through my hair. "Normally Barry your good at remembering names." Mon El says. I go to punch him put my godfather holds me back. "I am not going to remember names until I know my daughter is safe. And until I have her safe in my arms I won't give a shit about anything else. So right now remembering names are the least of my concern." I say. "Sebby breathe! Do not attack! I know everything in you is telling you to attack but breathe and stay calm! I will call the damn cult if I have to and have Cisco breach them here!" Kara yells. "Don't let your Sebastian side win Barry!" Mon El says. "Oh your forgetting. I am not Barry Allen. Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Sebastian. Sebastian Smythe. So my inner Sebastian is always coming out you just never realize it. Poor Barry Allen is the boy who was bullied for being himself. The one everyone thinks got onto the force because of his family being on the force. The one who has lived a hidden life for years. But you Mon El, Barry was never apparently good enough for. Why do you think I am always different around you. Maybe because my protective mode takes over. Sebastian is more like Barry then you think, but you just have to get to know him. I am Sebastian Smythe. Not Barry Allen which is my persona I have." I say chuckling. "Cisco-" I go to say but he smiles and tosses me the gauntlet I made which has Gideon engraved into it's system. I put it on my wrist and swipe my hand over the screen. "Bonjour Directeur Smythe." She says. "English please Gideon." I say. I look up to see everyone except Cisco in shock. "Sorry director Smythe. How may I assist you." She says. I snort when they all flinch back. "Do you still have the diagnostics from my blood Gideon." I ask. "Of course Mr. Smythe." She says. "Run my blood against Nora Annabeth Allen's please." I say. Of course Mr. Smythe. Is there something I am specifically looking for." She asks. "Yes. I would like for you to check her blood for ion's please." I ask. "Of course Mr. Smythe. Her ion count in her blood seems to be lower than normal but not completely gone." She says. "Gideon trace any Kryptonian DNA and the sample from Cicada's dagger to see if you can find Nora." I say. "Of course." She says. Just as Gideon was about to say something Reign and Cicada come in with Nora who looks beaten and bruised. Kara gasps. "Why did you go after her! She is 14 years old! I am the one you needed to come after! Not her!" Kara yells. "No no no. You brought this upon yourself. I told you I would torture your loved ones!" She yells. I can feel my speed being drained. Nora looks at me and when I see the fear in her eyes I lose it.

Caitlin's POV

Barry runs over to them at normal speeds and grabs Cicada's dagger and snaps it in half. How. He decks Cicada and walks over and Reign drops Nora who gets up and scurries over here to us and I do a quick check for injuries but find none other than cuts and bruises. I turn my attention back to the fight happening in front of us as Barry single handedly takes on a kryptonian. She is gaining up on Barry and knocks him down and comes over towards us for Nora and tries to hit her again but all of a sudden before we can do anything Reign falls to the floor after a sickening crack. "Never. And I mean never touch my daughter you sick bitch." Barry says before something is impelled into his heart. Part of Cicada's dagger. "Bye Bye flash." Cicada says and Barry falls to the ground after Cicada pulls the dagger back out. Gunshots fire but all I am focused on is the man at my feet. "The bleeding won't stop!" I call out forgetting I am in a room of men and pulling my shirt off to put more pressure on the wound. Cicada hit his artery. "I need to shock him! I can't find a pulse!" I yell out. The bring the things I need over and I shock him a few times but it doesn't work. "Cisco start CPR and mouth to mouth now! Danvers go grab the crash cart now!" I yell 

**Fast forward an hour.**

I walk out of the room in tears and slowly head down to the people downstairs. "Mom how is he." Nora says. That just makes me cry harder. "Tell me we didn't lose him!" Cisco yells. "I'm sorry. I did all I could. The bleeding was to bad and the dagger punctured his heart and caught his main artery when Cicada pulled it out. He's gone. I cleaned up the body if any of you want to go say goodbye." I say just collapsing onto the steps. I made a promise that I would always fix him up when he was injured but I couldn't. What kind of doctor am I. Nora clings to Joe. "Please tell me this is some sick joke! He survived Zoom plunging a vibrating hand through his chest but can't survive this!" Cisco yells. "He exerted to much energy fighting Reign! The dagger also broke the tip off into him and I didn't know until I found it in the blood he lost! It was blocking his speed from healing him! He is dead Cisco! And we are to blame! We all are! Every single one of us! We are in a room with 4 aliens who could have helped him but all they were doing was setting there staring like blubbering idiots! Barry isn't indestructible! He was human! Other than his speed he was human! Cisco me and you know basic martial arts and could have fought off Cicada and maybe Barry wouldn't have been stabbed through the heart! If Barry comes back from the dead great! If he doesn't fuck us all!" I yell. "I should've helped him." Nora says. "Nora you could barely stand. You couldn't have done much to help him. I'm sorry." I say as she walks over and clings to me now. "C-Can I see him." She whispers. "Of course baby." I say. I help her up and dust myself off. I lead her upstairs where Barry is. But he isn't there. "What-" I get cut off. "Funny thing about the speed force. If I die. It has 3 hours to regenerate my body and heal me. If it can't do it in 3 hours then I am just dead for good. I don't know what shit I would have to get myself into that it would take over 3 hours to heal me. Which smaller injuries take longer to heal because I mean they aren't life threatening. But life threatening injuries like me having a dagger plunged through my heart can be healed by the speed force in 30 minutes." A voice says and I turn to see Barry Allen standing there in fresh clothes, a smile on his face, and perfectly healed. Before I catch myself I walks over and lift his shirt to check for a specific scar only our Barry Allen has. When I see the scar I hug him. When I let go Nora runs and leaps into his arms and he catches her. "Also thank Thawne the next time you see him. He gave me some of his speed to speed up the healing process." He says. I am shocked to say the least. Nora gets down and we walk the stairs and neither me or Nora have let go of our lovable Barry Allen. As everyone sees us there is multiple screams, cries of relief, sighs of relief and a weight is lifted from the room. "How!" Alex yells. "Cisco remind me to kidnap Barry for a day sometime next week to analyze the speed force some more and to find out all he knows." I say to Cisco who walks over and Hugs Barry. "The flash lives on." Cisco says and we all chuckle.
