Chapter Forty: Twisted Tales and Horrors

I shifted on my seat, eyes darting at the two boys. Weird na nga sila noon, pero mas naging wirdo pa sila ngayon.

"Uh." I cleared my throat. "The quest?"

Wes stared at me for a moment longer, so Theo was the one who answered. "Oo, ang quest. Right. Oo. Uh, gagawin natin ngayon."

Theo was behaving normally before, pero pagkatapos ng kanta ay natutulala siya at hindi mapakali. Wes hasn't said a single word after appearing here. Medyo kinakabahan na nga ako dahil nakakatakot na nakatayo lang siya do'n at nakatitig.

"So, 'yong quest is...?"

I blinked at Theo's question. Wasn't he watching the memory that was displayed a moment ago? Nandoon ang kailangan naming gawin.

"Town." sagot ko. "Find Belle?"

"Tama, tama. Iyon nga ang ibig kong sabihin, Finn. Let's go to town and find Belle, who's still probably stuck in a carriage or a cottage."

Theo moved to walk away but I pulled him back. Nanlaki ang mata niya dahil doon. I just finished singing a fairytale song in this game, which is kind of awkward and embarrassing so I would appreciate it if they won't act strange.

"Alright?" tanong ko sa kaniya.

"Siyempre naman. Bakit hindi?"

From behind Theo, Wes rolled his eyes. It must be the first reaction he ever did the whole time he was here. I'm kind of glad he didn't become a statue.

"Calm down." Wes said, tapping Theo's back twice. Bumaling siya sa'kin. "Are we heading to town?"

Hindi na ako sumagot. Kanina pa paulit-ulit ang tanong nila at gano'n din ang sagot ko.

Tumayo ako't itinuro ang nakabukas na bintana. "Let's use this."

"I suppose so. The front door's too much trouble. Hindi lang ang beast ang problema natin kung hindi ang mga alive objects din." Wes answered.

I headed towards the open window, peeking outside. Leaves piled on the ground and the uncleanliness was evident in the garden. The leaves were green in the heat of summer, sun blazing in the clouldless sky. Mula dito ay kita rin ang mataas na gate na medyo nabuksan.

"I'll go out first." Wes stated, jumping off the windowsill and landing outside. "I'm the least injured so I'll lead the way."

Tumango ako sa sinabi niya. Wes looked around, eyes scanning the whole garden, looking for threats. Nang masigurong walang bagay na biglang mabubuhay ay bumalik siya sa'min.

"Let's avoid stepping on the leaves, in case we might make any noise. We'll go through the gate while hiding in the shadows of the trees. I passed by the windows on the outer corridor a while ago, and they're positioned at a blind spot. We just need to be silent and quick on our feet."

"Okay." Theo, who was now standing on my side, glanced at me. "Kaya mo na bang tumakbo, Finn?"

"Mm."

Kanina pa ako tumatakbo nang umakyat kami sa kwarto ng beast. Hindi na masyadong masakit ang katawan ko at minsa'y humahapdi na lang ang mga sugat. It's not so bad since I can function normally even at a slightly below-average energy. Nagiging mahirap lang naman ang pagmaintain nito kapag ginagamit ko ang magic.

Wes gave me a final look before leading the way. Theo and I followed his steps, avoiding the pile of leaves as he said and keeping an eye out on the ground, dahil baka may matapakan kaming makakakuha ng atensiyon. We stopped to hide in every tree as Wes checks the perimeter again and gesturing when everything is clear.
