*~ Conversation By The Fire ~*

- Ranboo's POV -

I got up and started walking over to Techno. They were sitting on a log that was close to the campfire they just set up. I walked over to the log and sat down on the other end of it. We sat there in silence for a while. I'm not quite sure for how long though, But it was long enough for the sun to start setting.

"Hey, Techno."

"Yeah?"

"What do you think the people in the village we're going to are going to be like?"

"Dunno," Technoblade looked over to me."I just hope they'll tolerate us enough to let me buy some fabric."

"Yeah, me too."

"But hey, on the bright side, if the villagers don't let us buy stuff, then we could probably get Philza or Wilbur to get the things we need instead."

"That's good."

"Yeah." Techno's gaze wandered back to the campfire. And shortly after that, I did the same. And with that, we sat in silence for a few minutes.

"You should probably get to sleep soon," Techno spoke, "I'll stay up and look out for mobs."

"But it's still so early," I huffed and looked over at the piglin, "I'm not even tired."

"You didn't sleep well last night because of that nightmare."

"I have nightmares practically every night. And even when I'm dealing with those, this would still be far too early to go to sleep."

"If you wake up early, then I'll believe you."

"You can't make me go to sleep."

"I can, and I will."

"Not if I run off."

"You'll die out there."

"Probably, but at least I won't have to go to bed early." Techno chuckled.

"You have a point," Techno shrugged, "You can't go to sleep if you can't wake up." I snorted with laughter.

"Well, when you put it like that. I guess I need to stay with you now." I sighed, "But, I'm still not going to go to sleep."

"Fine, but we're leaving as soon as the sun rises, and if you're not up in time, I'm leaving you here."

"What!?" The piglin burst out in laughter.

"Calm down, I'm just kidding," Techno giggled a little more, "Why do you take my jokes so seriously?"

"Well, why are you so mean?" I retorted sarcastically.

"Gasp," Techno said gasp out loud," I can't believe you would say something so cruel and uncalled for."

"Well, you deserved it," I responded with a laugh.

"Ouch," Techno wiped a fake tear from their eye, "I didn't know you hated me that much."

"I'm sorry I had to break it to you like this, "I joked, "I was planning on being so much crueler." Techno Gasped.

"Fine then, "Techno stood up, "I know when I'm wanted," The piglin started to walk towards the forest.

"Wait no, don't go," I spoke through a smile, "I'll miss you."

"It's too late. I'm already leaving," Techno called out as they started to disappear into the trees, "Goodbye Ran, I will not miss you."

"Oh," I uttered in a defeated tone. After a few seconds, Techno came back laughing. And in response, I started laughing as well. They made their way back over to camp and sat down on the log.

"Okay, okay, that's enough joking around," Techno sighed, "If you seriously want to stay up, go ahead. But I still don't think it's a good idea."

"Thank you so much," I said sarcastically.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Techno rolled their eyes, and with that, silence fell upon the campsite. Only being be disturbed by the sounds of the night. It was almost creepy how the silence fell over the wilderness, but it was comforting in a way. Silence always came when the sun fell, no matter how annoying or difficult the day before was.

But all good things must come to an end. The memories of my most recent nightmare crept their way back into my mind. Soon every unexpected sound slowly made my fear more and more intense and caused my paranoia to grow even further.

"Hey, Ran, you good?" Techno spoke, and I looked up at them, "You're kinda shaking." I looked down at my hands, and sure enough, I was shaking. I didn't even notice until Techno pointed it out.

"Oh, I guess I am," I responded quietly, "Don't worry, I'm fine, just still a little shaken up from my last nightmare."

"Still? Are you sure you're okay?" Techno's words were full of concern.

"Yes, of course," I tried to comfort the piglin, but my shaky voice didn't help too much.

"Do you want me to lend you one of my books again? Or I could read to you again if you want me to." Techno offered to me.

"Um, sure, that sounds nice," Techno nodded and grabbed their bag. After a few seconds of digging through it, they pulled out a book. Techno opened it and started reading. I focussed all my energy on paying attention to the stories that Techno told, and soon the intense fear I once felt faded from my mind, and I grew tired. The world around me faded away as I fell into a deep sleep.
