The hopelessness increased with every minute which passed in the endless waiting. Each second seemed to protract and each rustle of the wind whispered nothing, but the words of danger into their ears. The death smell, which had been lingering in the air for nearly two hours now, only made a dread twist in their guts and the grief of their loss kept them wordless for, what felt like ages. They didn't even share a word. All of them just waited with a dull ache in their hearts, craving for the hope to shine in their direction, at least, from one side only.
They had changed their location since it was too dangerous to stay any close to Sungjin's house. Neither of the three males wanted more trouble and problems to go their way and make their desperation grow. Taehyun now lay in the grass and they had gathered around him as if they were trying to protect him. Yoongi and Taehyung sat on the ground while Jungkook knelt before the dead male's body, his elbows on his knees and his fingers intertwined as he swayed his body nervously. They were maybe far from Sungjin's home, but still near the forest where the cars and people hardly moved, so they wouldn't be seen by anyone.
After a while headlights drew bright lines across Yoongi's face, whose bloodshot and hopeless eyes fixed on the car that was moving in their direction. Taehyung and Jungkook turned their heads behind to take a look at the vehicle and after reading the number, their eyes brightened up, as if they had just seen a spring in the middle of the desert they'd been walking in for weeks.
The three of them leapt up from the ground with anxiety flaring inside them, their eyes wide, the last hope shimmering inside them as they watched the car come to a halt near them. Yeonjun and his pack hastily jumped out of it while Seokjin and Jimin arrived with Jimin's car, everyone rushing to the dead male, who had grass and flowers poking his face and hair as the wind passed across them.
Yeonjun leaned down at the corpse, an unknown feeling coursing through him when he looked at his face. Maybe he was watching Taehyun, but Beomgyu was actually the one he was seeing. It felt like he had died over again like he had left him for the second time and broken his heart. The boy lay dead in front of his eyes again as the headlights flashed across his face, revealing his painfully darkening skin to the desperate male and stabbing his heart. However, the determination was more in his eyes this time than heartbreak, because now he had hope, a hope that he would manage to save a life, Beomgyu's love.
No one said a word as he searched for the syringe and the flacon in his pockets, taking them out with his shaky hands. He penetrated the soft part of the flacon with a needle and slowly carried the liquid into the syringe, almost filling it up. The others watched him with anxious eyes as he rolled up Taehyun's sleeve and held the boy's arm in a gentle manner as if he was afraid of hurting him, of hurting the biggest treasure of his humans, the persons he loved the most.
Yeonjun darted his watery eyes to the boy's face, saying as if the older was going to hear him, "You will be okay"
Without even a hint of hesitation, Yeonjun injected the needle into the older's arm, filling his vein with the warm substance until the syringe didn't get empty. Then he released a breath he didn't know he was holding and stared down at Taehyun with more tears in his eyes, reaching for his body to pull the boy into his lap and to his chest. Beomgyu felt that cold too in his arms the last time he was holding him.
Even the atmosphere became wistful when a cry left Yeonjun's mouth. It sounded like a cry of desperation and hope at the same time, like a mixture of suffering and excitement. His face was buried into the boy's hair and his arms were embracing him as if Taehyun was the last hope he could hold onto, like the last unfolding flower left in his heart. And no matter what would happen, he couldn't let him die, because after going through so much because of him, Taehyun's life had become too precious to him. He felt like he was saving not Soobin's, but his own brother. That's mainly why he was holding him tightly and praying that he would come back as Taehyun and not someone else.
