Unexpected Riches

Night Drive

Ruby's POV

I was outside my house because Ernest called me. "Wanna go for a drive" asked Ernest. He was on his motorcycle. "It's two a.m." I said hoping that it explains that it's so early. "We'll I came to get you" said Ernest as he handed me a helmet.

I looked at him with dead shot eyes because I didn't get sleep. I grabbed the helmet and got on. If I was going to drive this late I would hope Ernest had some place interesting to show me. "Put your arms around me" said Ernest. I did as he instructed and I never felt more happier.

I got on and soon enough we drove away from the neighborhood. We we're headed out of town and that's when I started getting hungry. "I'm hungry" I said as I kept my arms tight around him. "It's barely three in the morning" said Ernest as he kept driving. "Okay" I said as I took the hint. I just stayed quiet.

That's when I realized that we went down the road to stop at a food place. It said it was open at any time and there was a drive through. We went there as fast as we can so we could skip the line. We ordered our food and I held it close to me as we kept driving.

We kept driving until we were at a cliff outside of town. When we we're there so many people were watching the sun rise. Everyone was watching as we pulled up. I was excited to see this. We got off and I handed him the helmet after he took off his. We found a place to eat. There was grass everywhere.

The time we got here it was five. It took us a hour to get here. I guess the trip here took awhile but it was worth it. We sat on the grass field like everyone else. We both had coffee and I also had a sweet strawberry yogurt. This was my breakfast. Ernest had coffee and a breakfast burrito.

We sat there and ate our food. Once we finished eating it was already six. The sun was coming up. It was very beautiful. The sky was blue, purple, and pink. It was one of the best sunsets I have ever seen. I admired the view and with a couple of minutes the sun was out making it bright.

The golden hour was so pretty but it ended just as fast. I watched as soon after everyone was going back to their cars or staying to chat and walk around. Ernest and me knew we have been out for a long time. We thought we should probably head back. I went to throw our stuff as Ernest went to his motorcycle. I threw our trash and met up with him.

I was crossing the street to where we had parked and I couldn't believe my eyes. I saw Ernest taking a photo of a father and his baby. The father was holding the baby tightly as the child looked like they were driving. It was honestly the cutest thing. I noticed that the baby was a boy.

The dad picked the son up in his arms. Once the dad had one hand holding him he used his free had to clean the seat. "You didn't have to do that" said Ernest. "Oh okay. Thank you again" said the dad as Ernest handed him the photo. Ernest gave him his phone and walked away.

Once they we're gone Ernest turned around to find me staring at him. His helmet hardly let me see his eyes. I walked up to him with a smile. This is how I knew Ernest would be a great dad. "Hey" I said as I finished walking up to him. He handed me a helmet but before I put it on I couldn't help but smile.

"Ruby" said Ernest which snapped me out of it. I just kept beaming at Ernest without even moving. "What is it" asked Ernest confused. "You just let them take a photo" I said as I looked up at him. "Yeah it was no problem" said Ernest as a light laugh escaped his lips. I couldn't believe how sweet he is.

"Come on. We should probably head back since it will be late" said Ernest. "Okay" I said as I put my helmet on. Once the helmet was in place we both got on the motorcycle. "Put your arms around me" said Ernest which made me melt every time I heard it. I did as he said and Ernest got off the kick stand.

He looked both ways and he got onto the main road. As we we're driving back I couldn't help but adore Ernest more. He was the best guy I have ever met. I snuggled closer into him and I held onto him tightly. The wind was blowing around us like a thick blanket. My braided hair made it hard for my hair to be crazy.

We kept driving and I couldn't stop smiling. I wanted to remember this moment so I didn't stop looking around. This was the best feeling ever. "Ruby I want you so bad" said Ernest. I was able to still hear him. "I want you to be mine" Said Ernest. When he said those words I couldn't help the thoughts in my mind. I wanted the same exact thing.

"I want you too" I said as the clouds changed color. When I said that I noticed Ernest let out a big sigh of relief. "I want you to be mine too" I said as I laid my head against his shoulders and back. This was one of the best feelings. I watched as the sky glowed brightly as the sun touched everything.

The streets were brighter as we drove down them. My hands didn't want to let go of Ernest. We simply just wanted to be with each other and it felt like bliss. The feeling in my stomach just felt like a swirl of butterflies fluttering around. I have never been more tired and happier in my life.
