Me: Cosmo, get your ass down here and get your shoes on now, or you're not coming.
He basically launches himself down the stairs and lands on the bottom step, sitting down and slowly putting on his hiking boots.
Cosmo: I've arrived. Me: I see that. Come on, shoes. Rose, let's go!
Both Rose and Jess trundle down the stairs with their eyes half shut.
Rose: It's too fucking early for this. Scarlett: Um, I'm sorry, what? Me: That's no allowance this week my friend. Rose: I'm 15! Me: Your brother isn't.
I hold out my hand as she reluctantly hands over her bank card.
Me: Pleasure doing business with you. Now come on, shoes and zip ups on please, it might still be early September, but it'll be a little chilly. Jessica: Why are we going this early anyway? Scarlett: It's a hike, it'll take a few hours. Rose: It's 3:30 in the morning. Me: Stop asking questions you guys. It's gonna be fun, trust me.
Once the kids have stopped whining, we get in the car, and not long after reach the start of the trek up the fell.
Me: Okay so...here are the rules; no going off the track, no wandering away, no running away so we can't see you, no bickering. Okay? Cosmo: Yup, roger that. Me: Okay, let's go...oh wait, here.
I pull out of my backpack travel mugs filled with hot coffee for each of them, and a hot chocolate for Cos.
Cosmo: Thanks Mom. Scarlett: Better get going or we'll miss what you brought us out here for. Me: Right, let's go.
After around 2 and a half hours of walking we reach the top, sitting on the rocks and looking out at the view as the sun slowly starts to rise over the hills.

Scarlett wraps her arm around mine and rests her head on my shoulder.
Scarlett: It's stunning up here, and so quiet. Security Guard: Would you like a group photo, ma'am?
Cosmo turns to me and laughs.
Cosmo: These dudes are so posh. Me: Hey, be nice. Yes please.
The kids huddle in to us and the guard snaps the picture on my phone, handing it back.
Me: Okay, wanna go get a big breakfast? Jessica: Yes, I'm starving.
