Error's POV
My cloak flowed behind me as I walked down the stone steps in front of the castle. As I passed the flowers that grew to the sides of the stairway, I plucked one and held it gently in my hands.
I heard voices throughout the kingdom, most of them excited for the coming festival. Colors filled the air from lights and flowers that were hung up and the atmosphere was more joyful than normal. However, what truly brought me joy was the lingering vanilla scent I fell in love with.
The square was filled with townsfolk. I had never seen an event like this one before, none of its people without jubilance or exhilaration.
Once they began to notice my presence close by, they turned to me and bowed. I nodded my head to them and continued walking through the square. Candles had been lined on the ground to light up the paths and flower petals dotted the stone. After some thought on what to do, I chose the path that led to the cathedral.
The walk took only a few minutes. The farther I went, the more quiet the surroundings got. The joyful decorations disappeared and were replaced with gravestones and precious offerings for the dead. The cathedral stood elegantly as it housed the statue of Mary and watched over the resting place of my people.
I went in and made my way to the end of the walkway, towards the two thrones and towering statue. Memories of my crowning came to me as I kneeled in front of the mother of vampires to worship her. I still gently held the flower that I had plucked from the castle stairway.
During my prayers, I picked up the scent of vanilla and sensed someone behind me. My hunger sparked within but I was able to control it.
Me: So far everyone seems to like what you did with the festival, Ink.
I said, standing up and turning around. Ink stood at the large double doors of the cathedral, dressed in his royal attire.
Ink: That puts me at ease.
My mate smiled as he walked towards me. Despite his statement, I could hear the hundreds of thoughts that went through his mind. He was afraid, afraid that he might not live up to the expectations that have been placed upon him. He was worried that this festival would have multiple mistakes and he was terrified about the entirety of Kilkree judging him.
Me: There is no need to be afraid, my love.
I said softly as I placed a hand on his cheek. Ink blushed rainbow as he looked away shyly. His timidness only made me more hungry. I took a deep breath to keep myself under control.
Me: Here. This is for you.
I spoke again and offered the flower to him.
Ink: Thank you, your majesty.
Me: Formalities.
Ink: Thank you, Error.
Silence came to his mind as he admired the flower. However that calm left as quickly as it came, being replaced by his insecure thoughts.
Ink: How do I look? Do I fit the atmosphere of a festival.
I grabbed his hand and gently kissed it.
Me: You look delectable, my love.
The rainbow coloring appeared on his cheeks once more. I walked towards the entrance of the cathedral, taking Ink with me by the hand.
(Time Skip)
The two of us watched a woman dance to traditional vampiric music. Her movements were graceful and the ribbons attached to her wrists flowed like the ocean waves. The shades of red danced passionately as the she entered the climax of her dance.
I felt a light tap on my shoulder which caused me to look away from the captivating dancer. I saw that it was Ink, who was motioning in a certain direction. After turning my gaze I soon noticed the twinkling lanterns in the sky. It seemed the special part of the festival had begun.
As the lights floated high into the sky it almost seemed like they were joining the stars, carrying our love and hope to those that came before us. It was peaceful to watch.
Me: That was a good idea, Ink. The lanterns carry a symbolic messege.
We watched the dancer and the lanterns a little longer. Though Ink and I were unable to enjoy most of the festival, we were still able to enjoy some of the most special parts. The dancing and music would be taught and passed down from the current generation to the next. The lanterns acted as our messengers, as a way to carry on our hope.
Suddenly a scream broke the peace. I stood quickly and looked around, trying to find the source of the voice. It came from the border of the kingdom. Then I saw it, the fire raising from behind roof tops. At first I thought it could have been an accident but that was instantly discarded when I picked up the scent of...
