Children get older

"No because there was something so different about them when they came back from the country." Helen said. "I know it was a while ago, but it still baffles me."

John frowned. "Children get older Helen." He pointed out. "They were gone for a while."

Helen nodded. "Yeah I know that." She murmured. "But it was more than that, Peter was walking around acting like a 30 year old or something, Lucy didn't act her age, Susan was so put together and well spoken and Edmund - he did a complete switch whilst away, it confuses me to this day."

John was quiet for a while, before he took a deep breath. "You have to remember they went through a lot." He said slowly. "And big and traumatic experiences like that can have an effect on children, as much as I hate to say it."

Helen seemed to understand this, and nodded again. "Yeah, it breaks my heart to think about it." She breathed.

"Hey, it's all fine now though yeah?" John said. "And going to America is going to be so good for us, and Susan."

"I do feel bad for Edmund and Lucy though." Helen sighed. "I know they don't get along with Eustace much anymore."

"They'll be okay." John replied, but even he sounded skeptical.

"Yeah." Helen breathed. "Okay, I'm off to bed."

"Alright, goodnight." John breathed. "Love you."

Helen smiled. "Love you."
