October 11th
Just close your eyes

Peter held his brother gently, tears in his eyes, shaking slightly, not knowing what to do.

Edmund was curled against Peter, staring ahead, eyes wide, trembling, tears rolling continuously down his cheeks - traumatized.

Peter felt useless.

He'd been trying to get Edmund back to sleep for ages after the night terror he'd just had, but Edmund just wouldn't move.

"Please." Peter whispered, voice shaky. "Please just close your eyes."

But Edmund did nothing but just continued to shake.

"Please." Peter nearly started crying.

He hated this, hated seeing his brother like this, and he himself was exhausted so emotions were high.

"You're safe." He choked out. "I mean it. I promise."

Edmund swallowed hard, two tears dripping off the end of his nose as he finally blinked and turned to bury his face into Peter's neck.

Peter relaxed a little, but he was still worried about the way his brother was reacting. "That's it Ed." He whispered. "Now close your eyes, you're safe here okay?"

Edmund was silent for ages, before he nodded. "Okay." He whispered, Peter barely hearing him.

Peter could've sobbed for joy.

Edmund stayed where he was though, not wanting to move from the comfort of his brother's arms.

Peter didn't make him move, however he made himself comfortable and threw the blanket over them both, as he was starting to get cold. (Edmund had kicked the blanket off during his nightmare)

"You're alright." Peter whispered, running his hand through Edmund's dark hair. "You're okay, nothing can hurt you, I swear it."

Peter just kept whispering to his brother for ages until Edmund eventually fell back into a dreamless sleep.

Peter relaxed fully, letting out a shaky breath.

That had terrified him, and in the darkness of the room he allowed one tear to fall steadily down his cheek.
