The past can hurt

•••••••

Edmund stood on the balcony one night, leaning against the cold stone, staring out across the ocean which had been lit up by the full moon that hung in the sky.

He should probably be sleeping at that point in time, but he didn't feel much like going back to bed, not after the dream he'd just had.

People are right when they say the past can hurt, even after so many years, it'll come back and bite you when you least expect it.

Edmund swallowed hard, letting out a shaky breath and watching it mist before his eyes, shuddering slightly in the cold as his attention was drawn to the light snow on the ground.

He didn't like winter much, he was unable to find the joy he used to, and although he didn't mind it as much as he would've a few years ago, he would still rather just skip the season altogether - except Christmas, he loved Christmas.

He sighed to himself, still watching the moon and the ocean, unable to deny how beautiful it all looked.

There was just something so peaceful about Narnia at night, and it was truly the only thing that could calm him on a night like this.

Any other night, perhaps a worse night, the only thing that could even come close to helping him was his brother, if it got bad, Peter was the one person who always knew what to do and how to help.

But tonight hadn't been one of those nights, and Edmund was content standing outside, even though he was shivering.

The past could hurt yes, but it was up to you to decide whether it would kick you down, it was up to you to decide if you were going to get up and keep fighting, it was up to you to take control.
