There was an outcast group at our school.

I was very much aware of them just as much everyone else at our school. I hadn't had time to talk to them since they got dropped onto the school's lap at the beginning of this year.
They were only so noticeable because the rest of us knew each other. We all came from five middle schools so it wasn't hard to get to know someone. However, they just moved into the area; they stuck out like a sore thumb. I've only spoken to Jay but only because we had to buddy up in chemistry. He was nice but we didn't talk after that.

While I had my own friends that I loved, I felt bad that they were left out. They didn't go to many of the senior events or anything. It was so odd. Those were the things we would always talk about in grade nine, in hopes we have the time of our lives and we did. Though it felt weird to not have the entire body there in attendance. My guilt only worsened since I was the one that gave them the guided tour of our school since they didn't attend orientation. It was also a way to get the vice principal off my back. For now at least.

I shared a class with one of the boys though besides Jay. I believe his name is Leo? Leord? I forgot. He was always late and the teacher stopped calling out his name during attendance. One day, he sat behind me. I sat in the middle far left of the class. He usually sat back right. I pretend to not notice and listen to the French lesson.

We were given a worksheet to do and this was when we were able to talk as much as we wanted as long as we handed in our work by the end of the period. I took this opportunity to turn around towards the boy. I assumed he saw me turn and he lifted his head with no change in his expression. I put on the friendliest smile I knew how, building courage to speak to him by the seconds. "Hi." I saw him push his brows together, pulling a confused look at me.

He just waved. His expression elevated a little and he pointed at me. "Weren't you the one that gave us a tour?" I knew he was referring to his entourage. I nodded, happy I was recognized.

"Yeah. I'm Y/n," I introduced.

His grin became a little lighter and I saw the dimple in his smile. "I know."

I looked at him, waiting for him to return the introduction but it never was. He kept looking at me, waiting for me to talk but I didn't know what to say. I bit my lips until the truth spills out of my lips like a pierced sugar bag. "Sorry, but I may or may not have forgotten your name. I know it starts with an L but I am so lost after that."

I see his teeth in his next smile and heard him chortle a little. His eyes crease in joy as his irises sparkle at me. He suppressed a giggle. "Well, you're close. Like forty percent. Guess again," he encouraged with an amused tone sewn into his words.

"Luke?"

He shook his head with a chuckle.  "Lloyd. Also, that would've been twenty-five percent."

"You said forty and I thought a four letter word. I am not as quick as you," I argued.

He shrugged with one shoulder. "You'll get there."

I played with the pencil that rested in my hand. "What if you teach me and I'll get it faster?" I was so ashamed of my words but none of it seemed to bother the blonde haired teenager.
