"Are you sure your dad won't mind this?"

"He won't know." I climbed into the passenger seat, releasing a deep
sigh. "Just because he's the new head of police doesn't mean I can't go out."

"Yeah, but car races are illegal. And we may end up involved in one." This was Jade speaking, my latest friend since I had just moved here one week today.

I got excited when I heard we were going to leave our tiny tiny town in Maine to glamorous, extravagant Hollywood, where my dad landed a job as the local chief detective/head of Police.

It was a major step up; our house, the area, boys. Everybody here looked like models.

Today, Jade decided to take me to a party in the outskirts of town, literally a walk from the desert. California nights looked promising to me, especially due to the thrill I was getting from a car ride alone.

"You're zoning out again." She smiled. "We're here, fresher."

I blushed slightly and helped myself out. Suddenly, I felt childish in the lace crop top, black skirt with matching leather jacket & beat up converse. Majority of the girls parading around wore pieces that I have personally seen in Prada catalogues with equally expensive flats.

The house- which was currently trashed- was packed to the brim with dancing, drinking bodies, carelessly mingling to music. I lost Jade a long time ago, and right now I was sectioned off in the corner of the living room with a red solo cup filled with Fanta in my hands. I drummed my fingers on it awkwardly, nodding along to whichever song was on.

"How about joining the party?" I was joined by someone. A guy.

"I don't really enjoy awkward dry humping with strangers."

He laughed. "You're funny. Are you new around? Never seen you before."

"Yeah. Relatively new." I said. "My dad's the new detective."

"Whoa. Don't you go telling him about the party."

"No, I'm not that mean." I smiled. "What's your name?"

His hair had been tied up, revealing his features in the dim party lights. Everything about him yelled mystery, and despite the fact he reeked of cigarette smoke and alcohol, I was more attracted to him than ever.

"I'm Rocky." He looked in my direction and my body tingled. "You?"

"Harley."

"The name suits you." He said. "Although you would expect that name for a girl who rides around on a motorbike & wears ripped jeans."

"Shh, that's my alter ego." I chuckled. "Kidding, I'm not exactly bad."

"Being bad is exciting."

"But can also get you in trouble."

"Getting in trouble is fun."

I rolled my eyes. "I'm gonna go."

"Wait." He seized my arm. "Don't go yet, I don't know you that well."

"Another reason for me to go." I said.

"What if I want to get to know you better?" His eyebrow created a perfect arch to match his smirk.

For what seemed hours, we sat agains the battered wallpaper in the far less crowded hallway and spoke about our dreams, college, politics & plans to take over the planet.

He was an old soul with a twist, and had a calm demeanour and ring to his voice, which just shouted laid back vibes. He was the opposite of uptight, fidgety me, who rarely spoke above a shout.

A blonde boy approached us. He flashed me a smile and proceeded to help Rocky up, then offered me a hand up too. "It's time."

"Let's do this." Rocky grabbed my hand and I turned to him. "Chill out. Nothing major, only that this you definitely cannot tell your Dad."

I shook my head, and in the process, Jade caught up to me. "There you are, and hello there."

"Don't make a fuss." I whispered to her and she giggled.

I separated from Rocky, into Jade's car and followed the string of cars to the desert, where the party continued with music dispensed from the back of a car.

"What is going on?"

"The hottie you were holding hands with, he's a racer. People bet on him and he races; possibly the best in the state." Jade said. "But as that's illegal, it's all kept under wraps, so no telling your parents."

"I won't." I shook my head.

"Ugh, you're so lucky. Rocky seems like such a bad boy."

He was the very opposite; very polite and kind, with clear ideas within his head.

Rocky beckoned me over and leaned out of his car.

"Don't hurt yourself." I crossed my arms.

"Ah. You know my dirty secret. What's yours?"

"I don't have one." I blushed.

"All in due time, I know, I know." He chuckled and took my hand, planting a kiss on it. "Don't leave until I'm done. I still need to ask you out."

I nodded at stepped right back to Jade, who was sat on the hood of her car and watched carefully at what happened next.
