63. Racing tracks

I deleted the previous chapter with my authors note as I felt too naked revealing that ...I may republish it when I'm more comfortable doing so.

LUCAS' TOAST TO NATHAN & HALEY AT THEIR RECEPTION
Lucas: "I think everybody...knows that Nathan and I got off to a pretty sketchy start. Nathan; mutual hatred sound about right?"

Nathan: "Worse." (They laugh.)

Lucas: "Yeah. You see, then a funny thing happened; Haley. She showed me that you can find the good in everybody, if you just give them a chance. The benefit of the doubt. Sometimes, people disappoint you. Sometimes they surprise you. But you never really get to know them...until you listen for what's in their hearts and that's what Haley did with Nathan.         I wanted to get out. The last time Lexis decided I needed fun in my life and by fun I mean going racing, illegal street racing we had to run to avoid the cops. There was a cop behind us now and yet this same Lexis thought it smart to go illegal street racing.

"Lexis I said stop the car," I say for the nth time.

"No," He replies a grin on his face.

"Lexis I refuse to go to jail with you," I say.

"I thought that's what friends do? Go to jail together," Lexis states.

"We are not friends Lexis you said so yourself and whoever wrote that saying got it twisted," I state.

"Oh how so?" Lexis says.

"A true friend doesn't go to jail with you, a true friend stays outside to bail you out," I say.

"Well then thank goodness we are not friends, you get to go to jail with me seeing as I have people to bail me out," He says.

       I wanted to scream. I knew Lexis loved racing but I forgot about it and the fact that I'd have to confront it if we stay together. Wait, if we are going to the tracks that means the others will be there. Reid would be there. I don't know how Lexis could stand seeing him for years knowing what he did, I wouldn't be able to do it. I turn to glance at Lexis as we pull into the race venue.
Lexis turns to look at me.

"Please don't run?" Lexis says reminding me of what Reid said the first time I came here. Reid, how could he? I think and immediately stop myself. Hera, I say to myself. You only have heard from Lexis what if there is more to the story? The day Reid spoke to me I saw genuine care for Lexis in his eyes and heard it in his words. Shouldn't that mean something?

"Shakespeare?" Lexis says interrupting my thoughts.
I smile, I now had a reason to be here and I would not run.

I nod and Lexis smiles getting out. I see the crew approaching and brace myself.

"I still can't believe you're doing this," Zane whose grey hair was now silver says.

"Hey Hera!" Reid calls out. I wasn't sure how to react. I wanted to ask him so much but seeing him now I didn't know what to do. I was thankful for the information he shared with me but also I was wary of him due to what Lexis had said yet a part of me still wanted to give him a chance. How does one handle this awkward situations? I couldn't run but I also didn't know how to face it.

I give a half unsure smile, that makes Reid's face turn to a questioning one.

Lexis leaves with Zane and asks Lucas to stay by me before he walks away.
