There are three ways to describe people in the Philippines: moreno, mestiso and chinito. And these are based on their skin tones. The morenos being dark skinned, mestiso being pale from their Spanish mixed blood and chinito being pale from their Chinese blood. And it's actually quite racist.
Because it's something you can change. No matter how much papaya products and whitening solutions you use.
Looking at our outing pictures, I noticed, Nathaniel, Cosmo and Michelle are all Chinese, Ellie is mestisa, Gemma is mestisa but lucked out in the skin tone department. Gemma's little brother, however is as pale as pale can be, and she says whenever she goes out with her lil bro, she felt like she was his yaya (maid), because of their skin color difference.
While, I have the darkest skin, among us, I'm not really, really dark, just darker.
I don't know why, but I'm suddenly conscious about it.
