Eternally Ambitious Wangfei

Chapter 6: Nightmare

Mingxia Jie waited with bated breath for her maid to arrive. After what felt like hours, Lifen had returned and asked for Mingxia Jie to follow her. Following behind Lifen as she looked around the surroundings weren't something she expected. The courtyard was dead. The gardens wilting and the courtyard was as dilapidating as the gardens. There were no lanterns that could be seen from outside. She noticed that the trail of the women's clothing ended somewhere beside the main entrance. She walked towards it and looked at the wall, she smiled smuggly as she noticed a stone out of place. Mingxia Jie pressed it and the ground began to rumble.

Where the dead bushes use to be a dark cavern opened up. Mingxia asked He'er and Lan'er to guard the entrance while she took Lifen with her. The guards at the bottom of the pit wondered who had opened the trap door. They raised their weapons and prepared themselves, but to their misfortune, they saw the hem of a red dress. They looked at each other with an expression of confusion. When they saw the camellia flowers on the dress, they were flustered that of all people the wangfei had found the entrance.

-"Wangfei..what are you doing here..?"

Mingxia Jie had expected these guards and put on a bright smile:

-"What I do is none of your business, gentleman please move aside so that I may pass. If not, I will personally strip you of your ranks and titles, beaten to near death and throw you out of the wangfu myself. Do I make myself clear?"

The guards were terrified. She was clearly threatening them, but she was smiling while doing it. That means she would enjoy herself with their punishment... the same thought passed through their head.'She's worse than the Lou Chang!' She stared at them, and her brows lightly creased, the guards swallowed loudly and immediately moved. Lifen was even afraid of her Miss.

-"Ah, I forgot."

The guards were shaking in their shoes as they looked down at their feet and prayed to whatever gods would hear their prayers. Lifen was also curious to see what her Miss would do to them.

-"Lifen'er, you stay with them and guard them. If they do anything suspicious, do tell wangye that they failed to follow protocol and didn't listen to the wangfei."

Lifen was about to say something, but she was silenced by her Miss' smile. She sat down on the step in front of the guards and nodded to Mingxia Jie. Mingxia Jie turned around and continued down the dimly lit staircase. The farther she went down, the louder the screams of women became. Mingxia Jie's habit surfaced, whenever she heard the screams of a terrified victim, a smile would bloom and she'd be more interested in the way they were suffering. 'Such frail screams, I'm more interested since I came here'. Mingxia Jie reached the bottom of the steps and saw a door wide open. Mingxia Jie was in many ways a full on sadist.

As she looked inside, she was quite intrigued with what she saw. The floor was littered with dead concubines and a handsome man standing in the middle of them. It looked as though the devil himself was punishing the wicked. However, that wasn't the case. Lou Chang had a black bottle in his hands. He grabbed another of the screaming women and forced her to drink the black concoction.

The woman had tears in her eyes as she was forced to drink it. She started to have muscle contractions and her hair fell out. Her skin turned yellow and the muscle contractions became frantic. Her heavy makeup started to burn and ruin her already yellow skin. She stared at Lou Chang before foaming at the mouth and falling dead with her eyes open with regret.

-"I can't get it right! And I only have two tries left!"

Lou Chang was frustrated with his results as he pulled at his hair. Mingxia Jie couldn't help but laugh. Her light laughter rang through the damp dark room. The frightened women moved to the darkest corners of the room to not be noticed. Mingxia Jie stepped into the dimly lit light and covered her lips as she laughed. Lou Chang was in both shock and awe. The way she laughed was elegant, but her eyes carried a glint of malice that made her seem like there was more than meets the eye.

-"Try adding that over there to that concoction of yours and you can make their whole body shrivel up and eyes dissolve. Won't be able to recognize the body."

-"Wangfei, please don't joke about torture. You haven't studied."

-"Well, from the looks of it. I seem to know more than you Lou Chang. Look; you've already failed 16 times."

Mingxia walked up to bodies of the women and lightly kicked them with the side of her foot. She noticed a pendant on one of the women and sighed.

-"Looks like I'll have to clean up your mess. But back to your failures, you've really made no progress. Aside from this batch, you've failed a total of 45 times. How sad. How about a bet? What's your goal in making this poison? If I can recreate your effects, I have two terms. First; you'll let me use your lab whenever I want, and secondly, you'll become my personal doctor. Deal?"

Lou Chang was already furious with the wangfei. 'How did she know he already failed 45 times? How did she know more than him? And most of all; how did she find this place!?' Lou Chang would ordinarily ignore such a blatant challenge. But to have to bet against women, he would rather die than say no. And Mingxia Jie was counting on that.

-"Fine. I need the victim, to tell the truth, but after extracting the truth they need to die an extremely quick death without any proof of a weapon being used and when they die, to make the body unrecognizable."

Mingxia Jie hid her smile with her sleeve:

-"That's it? You're joking right?"

Mingxia Jie couldn't help but look at Lou Chang without a mocking gaze at him. She looked at her possible victims and chose one. Lou Chang couldn't help and watch this wangfei look at the subjects. The guards state that when they see him look at the women when he's working he looks like the devil punishing the wicked. But when he stared at Mingxia Jie, she looked like a butcher choosing the next lamb to the slaughter. It was a nightmare that he experienced first hand, but watching Mingxia Jie she was the nightmare that would haunt his heart for the rest of his life. Truly a wicked and evil nightmare, and he loved it.
