Eternally Ambitious Wangfei

Chapter 20: Indestructible

As Mingxia Jie left the magnolia tree she headed directly to her rooms under the careful eyes of Kangxi Di Guo. When she left, Zhang Cong escaped unnoticed from Kangxi Di Guo who had been both ruffled and annoyed by Mingxia Jie's request. Everything about it seemed to make him believe she was undermining him, which wasn't the intention of Mingxia Jie. She just asked because she was curious.

When she arrived at her rooms most of the maids had already begun packing. Mingxia Jie saw them packing in dresses and other very feminine clothing and items. She immediately asked for them to stop and told the to pack for male and simpler clothing to be packed. It would be very difficult to try and move and learn to ride in such restricting and expensive clothing, she asked if the maids could instead pack simple clothing that wasn't expensive at all. She chose the clothing herself based on how well she would be able to move. As she moved most of clothing around, she carried a simple pack carrying a few different outfits. When she finished she had changed into one of the outfits she would wear while learning and then walked out to see multiple servants were standing there waiting for her to hand over mounds of clothing and luggage.

Nothing like that happened as the only luggage she was carrying was a simple pack on her back that carried simple clothing without jewellery. So seeing their wangfei carrying only a single pack and had dressed in such clothing, they couldn't help but admire. She looked like every common woman, but the air she carried made the people respect and admire her. And with such simple makeup, people couldn't help but believe she truly is a goddess who descended from heaven because she loved humanity.

Mingxia Jie walked down to meet up with Kangxi Di Guo and Zhang Cong. When they saw her, they were also surprised. When seeing a noblewoman dress so casually, it was hard to imagine that she is one of the societies highly regarded. Soon after coming out of their fantasies they made their way to the stables. Kangxi Di Guo had thought it would be time to get revenge on her by making her ride a horse. Kangxi Di Guo's horse was a white steed that was strong and isolated from the rest. Zhang Cong's horse was a brown steed that was kept with the other horses and wasn't extremely special.

Mingxia Jie had looked around the stable to find a female horse who had black and white spots on both its mane and body. The horse had been kept in the corner and didn't receive much attention. When Mingxia Jie saw the horse, she approached and walked into the stable, the horse was nervous around her and was intelligent enough to understand that she was not like other people. The horse became increasingly friendly with Mingxia Jie, Mingxia Jie then put a saddle on the horse and led her out of her stable to meet up with the other two men. Mingxia Jie then looked at both men on their horses while she was still on the ground.

She sneered in her heart then looked over at the stable boy who was frozen from Kangxi Di Guo's gaze. Mingxia Jie called him over to help her onto the horse, after being taught to do so the stable boy grabbed her waist and hoisted her up annoying Kangxi Di Guo in the process. Zhang Cong then tied her horse to his and began to walk out. Since she was in disguise, most men stared at her with lust. Kangxi Di Guo was getting annoyed as more and more men stared at her. They quickened their pace to leave the city and soon were roaming through the farm side. As they continued on their way, they arrived at the edge of a forest. They crossed through the dirt path following most of it and then taking a turn left out onto an open plain field.

They had decided to ride further into the field and started to help set up the camp. When the men got off they had expected that Mingxia Jie would complain, that never happened. She saw them get off their horses and copied them, sliding off the horse with ease. She watched as Zhang Cong put three stakes in the ground and wrapped the horses to them leaving water in front. Kangxi Di Guo had started to set up tents and organizing food rations surrounding a slightly scorched area. Mingxia Jie walked over to the campsite and grabbed rocks to place around the burned place before walking off to collect dry grass. She then walked further to collect sticks in the woods and walked back to the completed campsite leaving the sticks beside the fire. Both men had been staring at her because they hadn't expected that she knew how to set up a fire.

-"Zhang Cong?"

-"Yes, wangfei?"

-"Are you going to teach me?"

-"Of course wangfei."

Zhang Cong then took off her saddle and placed it in front of her and told her that when riding she must keep her balance. They would first be starting on the ground before moving to the horse. Mingxia Jie was a quick learner and learned how to balance and steer the horse, by nightfall she had already made huge accomplishments in learning to ride. Zhang Cong told her she would be able to ride a horse by tomorrow. And for now, should go wash up and sleep.

Mingxia Jie the changed into sleeping clothes and slept the whole night exhausted from both the journey and setting up the campsite. The next morning the smell of breakfast woke her up. She got up, brushed her hair and pulled it back it with a blue ribbon. Then before leaving she took a robe and exited and walked up to the men cooking the rations. Mingxia Jie had never been picky in her past life, but the constant pampering had made her a bit stingy with food. She swallowed her pride and ate in silence the somewhat good cooking of Zhang Cong. As Mingxia Jie started to learn on a horse, she continuously had fallen had gotten bruised and scrapes. But she kept getting up and practised. She had practised all morning she was covered in mud and sweat, she had always been a hard worker and continuously kept getting up, as though she was indestructible.
