Chapter 45: Blazing

The last time I felt scared like this was when I saw mom inside their bedroom, collapsed on the floor with a pool of blood beside her and the poison she took that ended her life.

I can still remember how scared I was. Not because how she looks but because at that moment ang unang pumasok sa isip ko ay wala na siya. That scene is still solid in my mind. Mom is wearing a white silk nightie, and her eyes were wide open. Blood is also dripping from her mouth.

At first, wala akong ginawa nun. I was very young when that happened. Grade three. Kauuwi ko lang nun galing sa school. I am clutching my Math test paper na na perfect ko in my hand dahil excited akong ipakita sa kanya yun. May sumaway pa sa'kin na katulong namin nun dahil sa mabilis kong pagtakbo pataas pero hindi ko pinansin. When I turned the knob and the door opened, mom's widened eyes welcomed me. She's looking at me. And I did nothing but also looked at her. When I noticed the blood that's when I screamed.

Hindi ko na alam ang mga sumunod na nangyari. Except that I am so scared. Kuya GD was the one who hugged me at inilayo ako kay mommy. I kept on asking him what happened to mom kahit na nga ba hindi niya ako sinasagot. I never thought back then that she'll be gone. Ang akala ko nun ay simple lang ang nangyari sa kanya. Na pagtapos siyang dalhin sa hosptal, she will be home again and will be okay.

I didn't even know what really happened until one time at her funeral I heard the whisperings that she took her own life. Hindi ko pa rin naiintindihan but as I grow older, dad and my brothers started explaining to me already. Nagpakamatay si mommy but none of us know why. We will spend our whole life thinking of that question na wala naman kasagutan.

After that, akala ko wala na akong katatakutan because I've just experienced the worst but I am very wrong. Dahil kung ano ang naramdaman ko nun, ay nararamdaman ko na naman ngayon as Blaise's eyes scrutinize me acidulously as if I am the most evil person in this world.

"Arya.. You are my Arya.." he hissed to my face. Gusto kong kumawala sa kanya pero mas humigpit ang hawak niya sa'kin. And I don't think he actually has plans of letting me go.

"You lied to me. You were lying to me all this time.." nanginginig ang boses niya at namumula ang mga mata niya.

Napasinghap ako as what I saw slowly breaks my heart. It's evident that he's badly hurt.

"Blaise let me explain –"

"Explain what, Arya? That you lied to me? Na ginagago mo ako?" putol niya sa sasabihin ko.

I groaned. Sinubukan kong hawakan siya gamit ang isa kong kamay and thankfully he didn't budge.

"I'm sorry.. hindi ko sinabi sa'yo kasi alam kong magagalit ka" even to my ears I sound so stupid so I brace myself for a harsh response from him.

Kumawala siya sa pagkakahawak ko at binitawan niya na rin ako. He then let out a string of curses in the air na napangiwi pa ako. Ang mga team mates ko at si coach ay mga kapwa nakanganga lang at nanonood sa'min ni Blaise. Hindi ko sigurado kung alam na nila ang nangyayari dahil medyo malayo pa rin sila. Ang Hunter Fourteen naman ay kapwa mga walang emosyon.

"Alam mong magagalit ako pero ginawa mo pa rin! What the hell is wrong with you?!" sigaw niya sa'kin.

"I did this dahil gusto kong makaganti kay Maven at sa team niya! I just want to prove myself! I just want to prove that girls can also be good as boys pagdating sa volleyball!" I yelled back. At that, nakarinig ako nang mga bulungan mula sa team mates ko kasabay nang panlalaki ng mga mata nila. Hindi man nila siguro alam ang nangyayari, nasisiguro ko ang isang bagay; I am done already.
