Grocery shopping had been a success for the most part. Ruby got the piece of candy she'd been begging for and Luke got all of the necessities he'd been procrastinating on getting for a while now. So basically, all of the toilet paper was gone along with the majority of the food in the fridge. They'd gotten to the door when Luke realized that he'd dropped his keys in one of the grocery bags and it was gonna take a while until he could unlock the front door.

He started digging around, while Ruby watched from where she stood. She glanced up in time to see their neighbor from down the hall start walking towards her door, keys in hand. She was a pretty lady with brown eyes like her Uncle Calum, but curly hair that almost rivaled Ashton's. From what Ruby knew, she was close to the same age as her dad too.

"Daddy, isn't that the lady Uncle Michael told you to ask out?" She asked in her very loud and carrying tone of voice. The concept of subtlety was foreign to the four year old. Luke's head snapped up and round to see if their neighbor had heard.

She had.

They stayed there, staring at each other before Luke averted his gaze and tried to hide his reddening face.

"Ruby, inside voice." He muttered, scrambling through the grocery bags. Where the heck did he put that key?

"That's the lady Uncle Ashton said had a nice--"

"Don't finish that sentence." Luke hissed, shooting her a warning look. Ruby pressed her lips together, looking at him with wide eyes.

"Do you not like her?" Ruby tried to whisper, she really did. But trying just wasn't enough for her. Luke could hear her giggling. Their neighbor, not Ruby. He refused to lift his head. He would have much rather let the floor swallow him up than explain to Ruby that he indeed liked this girl. A lot. He didn't want to admit it to his little girl right in front of her though.

"Ruby, where are the keys?" He asked through gritted teeth. He couldn't find them anywhere. Ruby pulled them out of her raincoat pocket, waving them in front of his face. "You told me to hold them while you carried the bags."

Luke snatched them out of her hands, scrambling to unlock the door. He glanced over to see thier neighbor smiling as she finally got around to opening her door. She sent him a shy smile grabbing all of the grocery bags.

"Did I say something bad?" Ruby asked, helping Luke pull items out of the bags.

Luke placed boxes of cereal in the pantry and sighed. "I have no idea, I can't even think straight right now."

"Are you gonna ask her on a date?" Ruby handed over the jar of peanut butter.

Luke shrugged. "I think you already did that for me."
