"Hey James?" Alex said quietly one time that the two were alone together in James's room.

"Yeah Lexi?" James replied, his voice soft.

Alex sighed. "Do you ever regret this?" he asked, his voice tinged with worry. James sat up where he sat on his bed and looked at Alex. "Regret what? Us?" he questioned, confused.

"No, I mean the whole thing with me and Thomas and having to keep us a secret," Alex explained. James thought about it.

"Well, of course I do. I don't like keeping you a secret from my best friend. It's like you're an affair and you are far from that," he replied. "I love you, Alexander. I love you so much."

The two boys leaned in, getting closer and closer to each other. Just as their lips were about to meet, James's door burst open.

"What the hell, James?" a loud, familiar, obnoxious voice cried from the door. "Why are you kissing my worst enemy?" Alex and James broke apart, looking at Thomas in shock.

"Thomas, I can explain-" James started but Thomas ignored him, looking at Alex murderously.

"What," he asked, his voice dangerously quiet, "Is going on here?" Alex looked him dead in the eye.

"What exactly does it look like, Thomas? What do you think is going on here?" he inquired. Thomas was left speechless as Alex turned back to James. "Where were we?" he mumbled, pulling James close to him again. "Ah, yes. 'roundabout here."

He pushed his lips against James's and kissed him, acting like his crush wasn't just standing there. "Really, James? Him? You're supposed to hate him too!" Thomas objected.

James sighed against his lover's lips and pulled away reluctantly. "Why? Why should I hate him?"

Thomas sputtered, "Because you're my best friend! You're meant to take my side!"

"Yes, I am your best friend, Thomas. But Alexander is my boyfriend. You can't make me choose between him and you. Not if I'm truly your best friend." Thomas looked shaken.

There was a moment of flabbergasted silence from Thomas. "Well, Hamilton," he said, turning to Alex, "I suppose I have to tolerate you now. I won't lose James, he means too much to me and I don't know who he would choose out of you and me if we forced him to choose one of us. So, truce?"

He held his hand out to Alex who hesitated for a fraction of a second before taking Thomas's hand gingerly, pretending he didn't get tingles where their hands connected and shook on it.

"Truce," he agreed. James looked relieved, almost as though he hadn't thought that his friend and his boyfriend would be alright with each other.

"Umm, guys? I have a question," James said. The two boys looked at him, releasing each other's hands. "What's up Jamie?" Alex asked, his face wrinkling with worry. Thomas didn't say anything, but his facial expression showed that he wondered the same thing as Alex.

"See because you two are... on decent terms, does this mean we can hang out with your friends again, Lexi? I didn't want to ask before because of the whole enemy thing-"

"Wait, what? James, I always made it clear that I didn't mind my friends being friends with you guys, so long as they didn't insist that me and Thomas had to be friends," Alex interrupted.

At the look James shot him, he defended himself, saying, "Jamie, we're still not friends, we have a truce, for you. Nothing more, nothing less."

James rolled his eyes as Thomas nodded vigorously. "Yeah, me and Hamilton are not friends. Nuh-uh."
