Eliza cast her eyes around the assembled group, feeling her heart sink as she saw John Adams with his arms around Maria as she buried her face in his shoulder.

She was vaguely aware of Angelica talking and then the reply of the group, but she wasn't concerned about that. All she could think about was Maria, Maria, Maria. Her thoughts returned to the girl constantly and she couldn't get her out of her head.

She didn't even realise that Peggy was talking to her until she felt her younger sister's hand on her arm. "Liza, what's wrong?" Peggy asked worriedly.

Eliza forced a smile as she waved her sister off. "Nothing's wrong, Pegs," she lied, hoping that the others hadn't picked up on their interaction. Peggy looked sceptical.

"Yeah, and I'm the president. C'mon, Eliza, talk to me," she almost whined, John's ear pricking at the sound of his girlfriend's distress.

"What's wrong Pegs?" he asked, coming over to the sisters.

Peggy shook her head. "It's not me, it's Eliza. Something's up and she won't talk to me." John simply sighed.

"Peggy, sometimes people just don't want to talk about what's bothering them, especially to the people they're closest to. If you're really worried, I'll send Alex over and he can talk to her?"

He snuck Eliza a look, checking that it was ok with her. She nodded helplessly. When he had first arrived, before they knew he was gay, Eliza had been slightly interested in him.

Thankfully, she'd never acted upon her feelings, that would've been awkward.

"Fine, if you insist. I'll talk to Alex," she said reluctantly. Peggy's face lit up and she practically sprinted away to get their adopted brother from where he was talking to Thomas.

Alex had just been casually talking to his crush when he felt a small force of nature dragging him towards their sister. "Wha- Peggy! Let go off me!" he yelled at her. "What the hell are you doing?"

She dropped his arm with a huff, glaring at him. "You're going to help Eliza," she ordered. "And you're not going to complain about it. It's not like you were doing anything important!"

"Maybe not in your eyes Margarita, but he is important! Talking to him is important! If Eliza really wanted help, she's a big enough girl to come and ask for it. She doesn't need you to do everything for her," he snapped, thoroughly pissed at his youngest sister. Her face fell.

"Alex, I'm sorry. But my sister-"

"Peggy, please. I'll do it. But you owe me," he grumbled, walking over to Eliza. Peggy watched them talk for a minute before she turned around and straight into Thomas.

"Oh, um, I'm sorry. For walking into you and, um, interrupting your conversation with Alex. I didn't mean to. I was just worried about Eliza and I didn't stop to think," she whispered, blinking away tears.

A hand came down on Peggy's shoulder from behind her. "Pegs, don't worry so much. It's ok," Thomas reassured her.

"C'mon Pegster. Tell me what's bothering you," she recognised her boyfriend's soothing voice. She turned around and buried her face in his chest, deeply inhaling his comforting scent. John wrapped his arms around Peggy, holding her tightly against his chest as Thomas walked away to give the couple some space.

"It's nothing," she sniffled. She heard John snort disbelievingly. "Really. Alex was just annoyed, I know he probably didn't mean any of it. Well, obviously Thomas is important to him. But other than that. He wasn't even that harsh, I'm just not used to that side of him."

"I'll kill him," John's voice was eerily calm. Peggy looked up to see if he was serious. His hazel eyes looked back into her's. "I mean it, Pegs. He can't just make you this upset and not expect any consequences. I will kill him."

With that, he walked towards his best friend and his girlfriend's sister, Peggy grabbed his arm, stopping him before they got close enough to hear Alex say, "Eliza, don't worry so much. Just talk to her, find out how she feels about you. You might be surprised."

Eliza retorted, "It's obvious that her and Adams are a thing. I don't want to get in between that."

Peggy and John both heard Alex's laugh. He was doubled over, clutching his stomach as tears ran down his face. Eliza was glaring at him and started screaming at him in Italian. At her words, Alex sobered up a little and replied in the same language.

"Really?" Eliza gasped, reverting back to English. "Oh Alex, you're the best!" She hugged her brother before running off.

"Alexander, what did you do to Eliza?" Thomas asked, a smirk on his face. Alex pulled him down to his level, whispering something in his ear that made him turn scarlet. Then he turned to the rest of the group.

"All I did was tell her to do what I was too scared to do," he shrugged. Thomas cocked an eyebrow and wiggled it at him.

"What? The amazing Alexander Hamilton is scared of something? I wonder what it could be," he mock-gasped. Alex pushed him gently.

"Shut up Tommy, you know what I'm talking about," he said playfully. Thomas exhaled heavily through his nose.

"Are you sure? Because if I'm thinking of the wrong thing, you should probably correct me," he said. "After all, communication is essential in a relationship."

Everyone else gasped loudly at Thomas's choice of words. The two boys looked up in confusion. "What? What did I s- Waitwaitwait guys you've got it all wrong! We're not dating. I meant in all general relationships, not just romantic ones," Thomas rushed to explain. The others all groaned in frustration.

"I mean, I wouldn't object to a romantic relationship," Alex said shyly, drawing his crush's attention back to him again. Thomas's voice caught in his throat as he tried to spit out words.

"Wh-what? What did you just say?" he croaked disbelief colouring all of his features. Alex suddenly blushed, completely taking back every word that he had just spoken.

"I, er, um, well, it's nothing." Thomas's eyes flashed with disappointment and he turned away. Alex grabbed his arm, anchoring him in place and making sure he didn't walk away. Thomas turned around slowly.

The two boys stared into each other's eyes, neither of them even daring to breathe. Alex broke eye contact first, absolutely scarlet.

Thomas caught Alex's chin between his fingers, forcing him to look back up at him. The entire group of friends held their breaths as the two slowly drew closer and closer until...
