Last chapter was set on a Saturday so...
~Two Days Later~
Peggy sat with John outside their school. She was complaining about 'Alex' yet again. "I mean, he's being a total asshole to all of us but he's my brother and I get that he's upset and mad about this whole thing with his biological brother. But, can you believe the audasity of James? Coming in there and claiming to be Alex. Pfft. I mean..."
John stopped paying attention. He knew that if he just sort of hummed every few minutes he would get away with it. Peggy continued to rant as John got lost in his thoughts.
'Why would Alexander think it was a good idea to kiss me? Alex is so eloquent that I woulda thought that he'd prepare a massive speech if he ever decided to tell me he had feelings for me. Unless that wasn't Alex who kissed me,' he suddenly realised.
John was about to mention his thinking to Peggy when he remembered what she was talking about. 'Oh yeah. She'll be so hurt if she knew that real Alex was the first to turn to Eliza in Thomas's room the other day,' he thought grimly. The bell rang and John jumped up to go to class.
"I'll see you at break Pegs," he said, waving at her. She waved back and walked away distractedly. John sighed in relief.
Meanwhile, 'Alex' was walking to class with Thomas. Neither of them were talking as they'd just had another argument, their third that day.
Thomas walked away from him before he could say anything to make the situation worse than it already was. He sighed, almost glad to be away from 'Alex' when he walked straight into another Alex.
"Have you come to argue with me even more? Or do you just want to walk along the halls in awkward silence again?" he snapped. Alex looked confused.
"What? Thomas I haven't seen you since Saturday. I haven't spoken to anyone since Saturday. And before that I hadn't argued with you since our date last Tuesday when we couldn't agree on who was paying for lattes," Alex said.
Thomas groaned. "Hamilton, please stop playing mind games with me. It's not fair and I need some space. So just... Just back off, okay?" he asked, walking away. Alex watched him go sadly, not bothering to try and convince his boyfriend that he was the proper Alex and his brother was playing the mind games.
He walked all the way to his classroom and walked in, planning in just going and hiding in his seat until the end of the period. His plans were foiled, however, when he saw his brother sitting in his seat.
Alex walked over to James Hamilton, a serious look on his face. "Please move James," he whispered. "I need to keep up with my classes, you can ruin every other aspect of my life, but please, let me keep my classes."
James considered the offer. "Fine," he said, slipping out of Alex's seat. "But one word to any of your friends or Thomas or a teacher about this, and I will make you sorry," he threatened.
Alex nodded, sitting down thankfully. "Thank you," he murmured, pulling out his school stuff. "Thank you." James snorted and walked out of the classroom. Mr Hansen walked in and began the lesson.
Alex walked from class to class in some kind of bliss. This was the warmest he'd been since he'd run out of the Schuyler mansion after reading James's letter. He'd been staying on the streets since then. When he walked into his third period class and saw Thomas sitting in his usual seat, the one right next to his, Alex panicked a little.
He shouldn't have worried though. Thomas didn't even look at him the whole period. Alex was torn between feeling relief and wanting nothing more than to curl up in Thomas's lap and cry everything out.
