After about half an hour, the bell rang, signalling the end of lunch. Thomas jumped to his feet, reaching down a hand to Alexander, pulling him up.
"Do you want to meet up after class?" Alex asked shyly. Thomas smiled at him.
"Well, I was thinking, maybe we should get the whole squad together and hang out? It just feels like it's been so long since we properly hung out and I kinda miss them to be honest. It's up to you though. If you'd rather it was just the two of us, then that's no problem, but-"
"Course we can hang out with our friends. I'll tell them that we're going to meet at the gates after school? That way, we can decide what we're going to do then?" Alex suggested.
Thomas nodded. "Sounds good. See you then!" he said cheerfully before walking away in the direction of his next class.
Alex beamed at his crush's back, whispering his words back to him. "See you then."
~Time Skip~
Alex skipped out of his last class, grabbing John as he went past him. "Wha- Alex where are we going?" he asked in confusion as they walked past the Schuyler sisters.
"To meet up with Thomas and everyone. Well, I say everyone. I don't know if James will be there or not. From what Thomas told me, he was pretty harsh on him. I haven't seen him all afternoon, but he might have heard about it from someone else," Alex explained, shrugging.
John narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean 'Thomas was a bit harsh on him'? And why? I thought those two never fought or argued. They're too close," he said.
Alex bit his lip. "Well, you see, it might have been a little bit my fault," he said sadly. John frowned as Alex continued, "You see, I just wasn't good enough, I get that. So really it's no surprise-"
"Alexander fucking Hamilton, if you ever blame yourself for his mistakes, I swear, I will kill you. You did nothing wrong. You were sweet and kind and nice and you have to realise that he's the one who messed up, not you," said Thomas, coming up from behind the two.
"But Tommy-" Alex tried to protest.
"Nope. Shut up Alex. He's in the wrong here, not you."
"Will someone please explain what's going on here?" John asked exasperatedly. "This conversation is just confusing me and I demand to know what happened."
"Jamesbrokeupwithme," Alex mumbled in one breath. At John's obvious confusion and growing frustration, Alex spoke up. "I said, James broke up with me."
John gasped. "Oh my god, Alex, why didn't you tell me sooner? I swear to fuck, I am going to kick his ass straight to hell when I next see him," he growled.
"Don't bother," said James's tired voice from behind them. "I'm already there. I'm beating myself up, I don't really wanna add physical bruises to the mix too." John blinked.
"Well, ok then. I won't do anything. But the Schuylers-" he sucked in a breath "-they're going to kill you." James nodded.
"I'm counting on it," he said grimly
"Well, that's depressing. Jemmy, you don't need to get yourself killed just because you're beating yourself up over this," Thomas said, his voice surprisingly gentle. "It'll be fine. All of us can move on from this if we help each other. And by 'all of us', I mean you, Lex and me."
"Oh yeah, that reminds me of something!" John said suddenly. "Do you two still like each other?" he asked, gesturing between Alex and Thomas. They blushed and looked away from each other.
"I guess..." Thomas mumbled as Alex made incoherent sounds.
"Ok, just wondered," John smirked. James smiled too.
"We have to get those two together," he whispered, leaning close to John.
"I know. But Thomas would kill us-" John started and then a third voice joined in.
"And then he'd thank us," it said. John and James turned around to see their headmaster leaning down to join their conversation. "The only question is, how?"
John groaned. "They've both been skirting around their feelings for each other for far too long. This has to end." The three fell silent, trying to think of ways to set up Jamilton. (Deja vu anyone? No? No? I'll just leave this here)
"Well, keep up the good work boys and get them together by the end of the year. Otherwise I'm going to lose a heck of a lot of money," Mr Hansen said, backing out of the conversation.
"Mr Hansen, why are you even here?" John asked as politely as he could.
"I was walking to my car when I saw the lot of you and then I overheard you two talking about how to get those two together, so I came over," he explained. "Now then, goodbye boys. I'll see you on Monday. Try to get them together asap!"
With those encouraging parting words, he left John and James. The boys exchanged a look. "He does know that literally no one says asap any more, right?" James asked. John just shrugged in response.
"Wow, how did they not hear us? I mean, it's not like we were very quiet. Then again, we weren't very loud either and I guess it's beneficial to the plot that they didn't notice us discussing them," John said. James looked at him strangely.
"The plot? What are you talking about?" he asked.
"Nevermind. But they're too stubborn to easily get together so how do we do it?" John asked, distracting James from his slip up and the broken fourth wall.
"I've been Thomas's friend since kindergarten and I know that if you want him to do something you have to make it seem like it's his idea, even if he actually wants to do it," James sighed. "And Alex, well, he'll do anything for someone he loves, even if it's something that he'd hate to do."
"Hey, guys! What took you so long?" Maria yelled, startling all four of them.
"Hey Ria. We got caught up on the way here. Talking, you know. About stuff," Thomas said, exchanging a look with Alex.
"Yeah. Sorry to keep you all waiting," Alex apologised.
"It's no problem! We were all just wondering where you guys were. You didn't, by any chance, see Eliza, did you? And her sisters, obviously," Maria rushed to cover her slip up. Adams smirked.
"Oh, give it up, Ree. We all know you like her, it's pretty obvious. Just tell her how you feel," he encouraged.
"Yeah, I'm 90% sure that she's attracted to you," Alex told her.
"But I don't want her to be attracted to me," Maria stressed. "I want her to like me for me. Not for my body, or my face, or anything that isn't my personality. She's the first person I've liked in a long time and I don't want her to want me. I want her to hold me in the dark, kiss me lovingly not out of lust. It's been so long since I had someone to love me."
John 2.0 wrapped his arms around her, holding her. "It's alright, Maria." And that was all he had time to say before the three Schuylers turned up.
"Hey guys. What'd we miss?" Angelica asked, taking in the scene before her.
"Nothing!" everyone else chirped.
