Yeongchang Kim was born on the 28th of December, 1997. He was 16 when he died.

''If you keep trying, you will eventually succeed'' was Yeongchang's motto. He was very hardworking and never gave up. As a child, he always tried to assemble his toys without instructions. As he became a teenager, he tried to assemble the house's appliances. If he couldn' do it, he tried again and again and again. He also had a younger sister whom he cared for, and helped her assemble her toys as well. Yeongchang also loved sports and food, especially apples, ribs and hamburgers. Yeongchang's ultimate dream was to become an arcitect.

It was a month after the sinking and Yeongchang had not returned. His parents became desperate, and his mother threw a apple to the sea. Yeongchang's body was found the following day. When his body was recovered, his parents noticed that his nails were broken. According to the diver, Yeongchang was found from a room that had signs of scracthing and punching. He tried to escape until the very end. His other belongings weren't found.

His body was recovered and returned to his parents. He now rests at Hwaseong Sky Memorial Park.
