Haebong Lee was born on the 8th of July, 1980. He was 33 when he died.
''My name is Sea'Hae' Phoenix'Bong' The sea's'King Wang-chan' is'Lee Hae-bong'. I will always be on your side." Haebong introduced himself to the class on the February of 2014. He had just graduated from Wonkwang University's Department of History Education. He had dreamed of becoming a history teacher since middle school. He was at the school for two months, but was liked by the students.
During the sinking, he kept his promise on staying by the side of his students. He led at least 10 students of his to the deck and helped everyone with their life vests. When the students at the deck asked him to come with them, Haebong just went back to the ferry to get more students. He never returned.
His body was recovered and returned to his family. He now rests at Hwaseong Sky Memorial Park.
