Geonkye Lee (Class 6)

Geonkye Lee was born on the 9th of March, 1997. He was 17 when he died.

Geonkye was born with a heart defect, and spent the first 100 days of his life in the hospital. He got back home to his parents and older sister. He still had to go to checkups regularly, and he had to have another surgery at the age of 3. He grew up healthy and stayed strong. His parents say that he only has one expression, a small grin. He loved excercising, but had to do it much lightly because of his heart. His best friend was Janghwan Lee, whom he had known since childhood. Geonkye was also popular among the female students of Danwon because of his looks. Geonkye was also a good cook, and always cooked dinner for his family. His favorite food was pizza, but he loved making ramen and tteobokki more. He also helped with other chores if he was asked to. Geonkye's ultimate dream was to study arts in university and become a graphic designer. He also wished to be born healthy in his next life.

Like almost all students, Geonkye was excited about the trip. He had postponed his checkup and started packing. When his parents heard about the sinking, they rushed to Jindo and they had bought him his favorite pizza so he could have something to eat. Days turned into weeks, and there was no Geonkye in sight.

His body was recovered a month after the sinking and returned to his parents. He now rests at Ansan Sky Memorial Park.
