"Hey Hayeon, how did you meet Jungkookie?"
Taehyung asked, piling up an assortment of food onto a plate and eating it greedily as if he'd been starved for days. Next to me, Jin had presumably returned from the kitchen, and had begun to lay down plates and plates of steaming food. The meal look delectable and smelt even better but my appetite had been squashed like a bug. After that little confrontation with Yoongi, I had a strong sense of unease that seemed to consistently hit me despite the boys' attempts at being as welcome as possible.

I nibbled at the corner of a piece of toast before replying. "I was assigned to him in attempts to get him to talk."

"I'm guessing that didn't go down well," Hoseok laughed, knowing that Jungkook was good at keeping secrets. He was also incredibly stubborn.

I smiled softly. "He certainly wasn't fond of me for a while."

"Jungkook must trust you a lot," Jin said, sitting down next to me on the long dining room. He held out a plate of meat towards me but I kindly declined due to the knots in my stomach. "He's a very open person and likes to see the best in people. Unfortunately, Mediheal has managed to twist all of our minds, even Jungkook's. There's not a day that goes by when we're not looking over our shoulders."

Jin's face had dropped significantly and, like me, he seemed to be struggling to eat his food.
Jimin leaned forwards and placed a reassuring hand over his.
"It's not your fault hyung. Plus we like living life on the edge, right?"

He elbowed Taehyung and Hoseok simultaneously who both coughed and quickly slurped up their bowl of noodles like some sort of wild animals. Boys.

"Don't worry about us, Jin hyung. Everything will be okay now that we've got Jungkook back!" Taehyung beamed, his eyes crinkling in the corners as he sent the older a boxy smile. Jin laughed and ruffled the boy's hair but I couldn't help but noticed that he still seemed to adorn a rather dejected look. Whether it was fear or regret, I couldn't tell.

"Do you like Jungkook, Hayeon?" Taehyung said, leaning towards me with a cheeky glint in his eye.

I coughed awkwardly and looked away from his eager look. "I mean- I guess, I like him. Only as a friend though," I added quickly when I realised that Taehyung would probably interpret my words a lot differently otherwise.

"Oh come on! It's obvious that he likes you, you just have to admit it and then boom! You'll fall in love and we could have a wedding and I could be a flower boy and I could wear one of those cute flower crowns and then you'll really be part of the family."

I had noticed that Taehyung had a reputation for babbling incessantly but I hadn't realised the extreme of his vivid, very vivid, imagination.

I felt a flush of warmth rise up my cheeks at his sentence. Did he think me and Jungkook were a thing? What was it with people thinking I was dating all of my 'boy' friends? My brain quickly flickered from one scenario to another as I tried to gauge what the other boys were thinking about me. Oh my god, what if they thought that I only helped Jungkook because I thought he was handsome? They would probably assume that I was fickle girl with a crush.

It wasn't as if I didn't think Jungkook wasn't handsome because that would a terrible fib. He was tall and muscular and he had that floppy hair that seemed to drive girls insane. That wasn't even mentioning his little smile and eye crease that, even though I had rarely seen, had already been engraved into my mind permanently. Plus, his attitude was also attractive. He was sweet and funny and kind hearted and cared about others more than himself. It was rare to come across a gentlemen like him but even then, I certainly, absolutely, definitely did not have a crush on Jeon Jungkook.

I went to tell Taehyung that exact thing when Jimin spoke, waving a chopstick in the air. "You can't be a flower boy anyway."

"Why?" Taehyung pestered the older boy, a pout on his face.

"Because, you're a boy."

"Why does that mean I can't be a flower boy?" Taehyung looked affronted as he lightly glared at Jimin.

Jin wiped his face on a nearby napkin before answering kindly. "Traditional gender roles are mean."

Taehyung slammed a fist on the table in indignation. He looked like an angry puppy. "Screw gender roles, I want to be a flower boy."

"Who's being a flower boy?"

Everyone in the room recognised the warm and airy tone of voice and turned towards the door, me included.

There he was.

Jungkook.

Jin nearly fell out of his chair as he pounced onto the youngest member, the rest of the boys, in the room, following his example. There were tears and shouts and cheers from everyone as they wrapped Jungkook into a hug and spun him round and round. Taehyung had even accidentally duplicated himself in excitement, the two doppelgängers of himself hanging aimlessly around the whole fiasco. I couldn't help but feel uplifted as I watched the boys celebrating their long awaited reunion.

I wanted to talk to Jungkook, of course, but I found myself hanging back for a moment to appreciate the moment from afar. This wasn't my time to intrude.

From the distance I could hear Jin lovingly scold Jungkook as he cried into his shoulder and told him never to leave again. My sight wasn't good enough to see every single action that happened but I could easily spot the large grin on Jungkook's face that seemed to light up the entire room. He hugged everyone of his friends, especially Jin who seemed to be breaking down and gasping for air through his tender sobs.

It felt like hours until Jungkook locked eyes with me and stepped away from the others to take a tentative step forwards.

Time seemed to slow down as he took another step towards me, his face pulled into an unreadable expression. I felt too stunned to move. This was happening, really happening.

He was no longer wearing the orange jumpsuit or the metal cuffs and, instead, wore a pair of faded jeans and an oversized jumper. It made him look younger, as if all his lost youth had suddenly returned after he escaped from that dreaded laboratory. He looked happy.

He took another couple of steps forward until we were almost chest to chest. I gulped, looking up at the boy in front of me. He looked down and time seemed to hit the play button and all my emotions slammed into me like a truck.

Before I even realised what was happening, I surged forwards. I felt Jungkook tense but I didn't care. Before he could complain, I threw my arms around his torso and sobbed into his chest, my tears staining his shirt. I didn't care that I looked like a crying mess. I didn't care that all the boys were watching me. All I cared about was Jungkook.

"I was so scared," I mumbled into his chest. I felt him lift a hesitant arm around my back as he held me in the hug. "I thought you'd be caught and they'd hurt you." I felt myself hiccup as I wiped my eyes. I hope he hadn't liked this shirt too much. "And then I was trapped and I couldn't find you."

He leaned down towards me and placed his chin of my head as he gathered me up into his arms. "I'm sorry Hayeon," he whispered softly into my ear.

"You better be," I sniffled, pulling away slightly.

He chuckled and patted my head. "Now that we're out of the laboratory, I'd really like to get to know you, Kim Hayeon."

"Me too, Jeon Jungkook."
