We had lost almost everything. The place we cherished the most had just been blown sky high, our supplies decimated in the blast. They had somehow managed to rig an underground network of TNT, right under our noses. My med bay was relatively untouched, a small blessing in an otherwise disastrous situation. I glance around the ruins, the way everything has disintegrated in a matter of seconds.
I gently clean the grazes on Tubbo's face, wiping off embedded dirt and pebbles. He winces slightly, but I keep going. Wilbur and Fundy chat softly, and Tubbo sits silently in the corner. They all have varying degrees of bandages wrapped around their limbs, or plastered onto the faces. Tommy is outside, shouting angrily at the sky, at the trees, at the lake, at anything around that he thinks could listen. It's probably more of a screech than a shout, but I won't say anything, even though the look on his face would be priceless.
The doors swing open with a squeak, and slam shut behind Tommy as he marches into the med bay. He's still fuming but has finally run out of things to say. I don't actually think that's possible, but one can hope right? He collapses heavily on a cot with a huff. Dead silence.
People clean up debris outside. Some just wander aimlessly. The attack has shaken us to the very foundations, the core of our being.
That attack had been rigged beneath our feet. The sweeps for more explosives had come up empty, but the paranoia had set in. It was a non-lethal attack, but the intention was so clear.
They could get to us no matter what, and our only choice of survival was surrender. Maybe he underestimates the desperation of our people. Maybe he's too arrogant to care.
Eret approaches the group, a cut on the bridge of his nose, and scrape on his cheek. "We lost a lot of the ammunition from the warehouse."
Wilbur's face betrays dismay. "It'll take us weeks to recover that."
I drop the bloodied gauze into a bin, rinsing my hands in the basin. Tubbo lets me press a bandaid over his cheek. Eret stands there for a moment.
"I have supplies stashed in the old basement on the med shack, they might have been protected from the explosion. I'll need up carting them up."
We all stand up and follow Eret. We reach the flat expanse of ground that once held the med shack. I'm stuck with a feeling of unease. I don't understand why he left valuable supplies in a sealed basement. I don't voice my concerns, because it seems silly after everything.
He pulls out a shovel and begins to dig out the opening. Once he clears the dirt, I peek around his shoulder and see a long, dark stone tunnel leading underground. We climb down, and the sunlight illuminated the dark room just enough to see the boxes lining the walls.
"Shit Eret, thank god you left this stuff down here." Wilbur claps Eret on the back, palpable relief in his voice. I'm still confused, mollified by the good news that we have something to salvage from the destruction.
Tommy rushes down the steps, eagerly lifting the lid of one of the boxes.
"This is empty-"
Everything goes to hell.
Doors slide open, the sound almost unplaceable until I see the forms of three people emerge in the dim light. I barely have time to take a step back when a figure lunges at me, wildly swinging an axe.
His face is lit in a sliver of sunlight, Sapnap's eyes gleaming with the reflection of the glinting metal. I scream, pulling out my own sword and lift it, rewarding with the sickening screech of metal on metal.
I can barely comprehend the last few seconds, let alone the horror unfolding around me, the yelling, the clashing of blades, the thump of bodies. Tommy. Tubbo. Fundy. Wilbur. Eret. I stumble blindly back, almost catching my ankle on the bottom of the staircase. I can barely keep up with the onslaught of Sapnap and his blade.
