Twenty-three

The weekend has ended so fast and now it is time to go back to school. I drop Ella off, giving her a kiss and hug before watching her walk into the building before I go back to my car and drive to the school I teach in.

The day was relaxing, it almost always is since I teach an age group that is so sweet and cute. If I tell them to do something, they will do it, if I am talking, they will stay quiet and listen. They are nice to me and to everyone else in the classroom, everyone is friends and no one argues with each other. It warms my heart knowing that these kids are happy, and seeing them smile and laugh with each other makes me happy. They are like my other kids.

The bell rings and the kids run to their cubbies to grab their stuff. I stand at the door, greeting parents as they pick up their children, saying by to them as well. When I look back into the room, I see Abigail sitting on the floor, her legs crosses with her jacket on and backpack on her back. I frown momentarily and look out the door, but see no one there.

"Abigail," I say and sit down besides her, crossing my legs. "Where's your mum?" She shrugs her shoulders and lets out a puff of air. "Is everything alright?" I ask, seeing she is upset. Abigail shakes her head. "We are friends right?" She nods, looking at me curiously. "So friends tell friends what is bothering them." I give an encouraging smile.

"My sister is sick." Abigail pouts, looking down at her boots. I let out a smile, unable to hide it. I was expecting the worst, like her parents fighting, but really it is just her sister who is sick. I hope not too sick though.

"Like how?" I ask, realizing that I just found out Jasmine has another cousin that I didn't know of.

"She's in bed coughing. Mummy had to stay home to watch over her." I nod my head and gently place my arm on her back.

"Did your mum say she had the flu?" Abigail nods. "Then there's nothing to be worried about. She will be okay, everyone gets the flu. She will get better." This seems to have reassured her because her mouth curls up and gives me a wide smile.

"Thank you, Mr. Styles." She says and stands up to give me a hug. I hug her back, a chuckle coming out of my mouth.

"Anytime. That's what friends do." I smile at her. She unwraps her arms from me, so I stand up and brush off my jeans from dirt. "Who's picking you up today, Abigail?"

"I think my mummy? But I don't know where she is." I purse my lips, thinking what I should do. Should I call her mum's cell?

I walk to my desk to take out Abigail's information sheet, but then I remember that Jasmine is her cousin. I pull my phone out from my jacket pocket and unlock it. I scroll to Jasmine's contact and press call, holding the phone up to my ear. I see Abigail walk over to my desk, sitting down on the carpet.

"Look what we have here. Harry on his phone during the job."

I scrunch my eyebrows with confusion, hearing Jasmine's voice but also hearing the ringing continue on my phone. It finally seemed to have clicked after a few seconds and I turn around to see Jasmine smirking while leaning against the door.

"Jasmine." I groan, walking over to her while ending the call and slipping my phone in my back pocket.

"Nice to see you too, Harry." She jokes. I glare at her.
