Elliot's father walked into the balcony, where Nova was helping Elliot with his homework.

"Hello, kids." he said sternly, his face showing no emotion.

"Oh, hi Dad." Elliot nodded as he went back to his homework.

     "Hi, Mr. Roberts." Nova smiled.

Elliot knew he had to get them out of the same room. One wrong word, and his father will know the truth.

"Um, Nova, can you get my smart pad from the kitchen? I think I left it there," He said.

"Oh...Sure," Nova stood up so she could go get it.

She passed Elliot's father as he gave her a look. Elliot decided to follow her. Just in case she did something stupid.

   "Hello, Nova!" Elliot's mother chirped.

"Hi Mrs. Roberts," Nova said politely.

"What are you doing here? I though you and Elliot were studying?"

"Ethan just wanted me to grab his smart pad," Nova informed her.

Elliot's mom stopped what she was doing and looked directly at Nova.

      "Ethan?"

Elliot entered the room.

"Oh, thanks." Elliot said as Nova handed him the smart pad.

"I'll meet you outside," Nova said, gesturing at the door.

Elliot's mom waited for Nova to leave. Then she turned and faced Elliot.

"She calls you Ethan?" She asked.

     "Yeah."

"And you're okay with it? The only person who called you Ethan was...Alex." she said, hesitating to say the name.

"Yeah. I'm fine," Elliot said as he walked outside.

He sat next to Nova and smiled as best as he could.

"What was that about?" Nova questioned him.

     "Nothing," Elliot smiled.

     "Forget about it."

"Your mom seemed stunned when I called you Ethan," Nova continued.

Elliot knew Nova was stubborn, and it was starting to get annoying.

    "It's nothing," Elliot said quietly.

Now, Nova was stubborn, but she wasn't clueless. Elliot looked down at the floor. Nova smiled at him.

    "Okay."

"My mother always said to tell when you can speak." Nova told him.

"What is your mother like?" Elliot asked.

He had not heard Nova talk about her mother, or any of her family members, really.

"My mother died when I was eleven," Nova told him.

"She was amazing...kind, smart-" her voice cracked as her eyes watered.

She rested her head on his shoulder. Suddenly, Elliot's mother opened the door and they quickly seperated. She breathed in the fresh air.

"Someone left you two a message," she informed them.

Elliot wondered who it could be. People usually didn't leave him messages.
