Not What They Seem

Mabel, or Jade, lead them to the coffee shop, the same coffee shop they had been to earlier. She unlocked the door to the closed coffee shop and went to the counter, where a holographic keypad appeared. She entered a code into it and a hole appeared in the floor.

"What the hell is that?" Elliot asked.

       "Go in," Jade instructed them.

"Most definitely not," Elliot told her.

"Okay then," Jade sighed as she pushed him down the hole.

"Here goes nothing!" Nova shrugged as she jumped in.

Elliot landed on his stomach with Nova beside him in a dark room. Jade leaped into the hole and landed on the ground like a superhero.

"This place looks creepy," Nova whimpered.

"Stop complaining, let me just turn the light on."

Jade switched the power on, and millions of little things lit up. With a blue color palette, the room was glowing. There was a big desk in the shape of a half-circle, with holographic information floating above it. The keyboard was part of the desk and was flat just as the desk was. The room had white tiles, in which the cracks glowed.

"Princess, welcome to your protection." Jade beamed.

"Wait, are you from the moon?"

"What do you think?" Jade answered sarcastically.

"Okay, yeah. Do you know about-"

"About the Ultra Weapon? Yep, already have it." Jade informed them nonchalantly.

   "What?" Elliot exclaimed.

"I. Have. The. Ultra. Weapon," Jade said slowly.

Elliot rolled his eyes at her.

"Can we see it?" Nova asked excitedly.

    "Sure, why not." Jade shrugged.

Jade shows them a closet in the back of the room that contained a huge box. She unlocked the box, which leads to another box. She unlocked that box, which contained another box. This kept going on for about nine more boxes until...

"This is the Ultra Weapon." She revealed to them.

It was a white ball that fit in her hand. It had blue, glowing symbols on it. A star, egg, crown, and sword were on it too. There was another symbol, but it was hard to see, and it wasn't glowing. It looked like a crescent moon. It was similar to the moon-shaped birthmark on Nova's neck.

     "Wow," Nova mused.

"Okay, let's destroy it," Elliot said, grabbing it out of Jade's hand.

"Can I see it?" Nova questioned him.

He shrugged and handed her the sphere.

When she held it, a sharp pain went through her body, a pain that hurt like nothing she had felt before.

"Give it to me!" Jade demanded.

"Why would you do something like that?"

"I was just holding it," Nova mumbled.

"You can't hold it. You have the mark." Jade informed her.

   "What?" Elliot questioned.

Jade sighed.

"Every time you touch this sphere, the more life drains out of you and into it. Look at your birthmark,"

Nova pulled her hair back, revealing the birthmark once again.

   "It's fading."

"And look at the crescent on the Ultra Weapon." Jade showed them.

Instead of the moon on the sphere dull, it was slightly glowing, not as much as the others.

"What happens if I touch it for too long?"

Jade was silent for a minute.

   "You die."

"Wait, let me get this straight. In order to unlock the Ultra Weapon, Nova has to die?"

"Exactly. Which is why you must never touch it."

"Why can't we just destroy it?" Nova asked.

"The only way to destroy the Ultra Weapon is the unlock it. Otherwise, it's indestructible."

Both Elliot and Nova were quiet.

"I can't believe you didn't know that. What were you doing in an abandoned playground anyways?" Jade asked.

Nova's stomach started doing gymnastics once again.

"You know...researching. Stuff. About the Ultra Weapon," Nova lied.

"On a playground?" Jade said skeptically.

   "Yes."

Jade looked at them for a moment, then shook her head, dismissing the idea.

"You have to stay hidden until we figure out what to do, Nova. The moon wants that weapon."

"Wait...aren't you from the moon?  Nova asked.

"Technically, no. I was kidnapped from Earth when I was three. They let me go to find you but, I decided to help you instead,"

"Why would the king, Nova's father, want her dead?" Elliot asked doubtfully.

"Considering what he did to the queen before War Of Worlds..."

   "What?" Nova croaked.

Jade sighed.

"Before War of Worlds, the king had the Ultra Weapon. The queen was the owner of the crown, which meant she was the only one able to unlock the Ultra Weapon..."

"The king used the queen to get the sword symbol."

    "It was Dad?" Nova choked.

Jade nodded.

"But anyway," Jade said, changing the subject.

"We have to find a way to make sure the Lunar Army doesn't get the Ultra Weapon."

Nova and Elliot nodded in understanding.

"So, can we...stay here?" Nova asked.

    "Sure," Jade said.

"There's a room in the back. You've got to be safe,"

"Some things aren't what they seem."
