Gura's AU - Hot and cold

The closer you are to your soulmate the warmer you feel, the further you are the colder. Basically finding your soulmate is one big game of hot and cold.

I'm finally continuing the series. I'm sorry for taking so long, but I wanted to write for other characters besides Hololive English. But fear not, because I also plan to have Amelia's chapter out soon too, so it will all be completed.

Also, an important note, this chapter include some of my headcannons for pre hololive Gura, so she'll act a little different, but hopefully not too much.

As a note, reader is an immortal being for plot convenience.

Gura had spent most of her life thinking about her soulmate. Pretty much everyone had a soulmate nowadays, including all of her family. But after 9000 years of no luck they stopped caring. Well, that's what she assumed since they were forcing her into an arranged marriage with someone from another kingdom.

Gura sighed, leaning against her windowsill further as she stared gloomily out unto the glowing city below. Above, the silhouettes of sea life danced through the water, filtering shadows over her face.

For her entire life Gura had always been chilled to the bone, literally. Her parents had always insisted that as long as they shared a soulmate bond, she could be with whoever she wanted in Atlantis. But by the age of 6000, she had met every citizen and never felt any warmer. That was when her parents too, grew colder.

It had always been the only thing the shark wanted, to meet her soulmate, but under the restricting thumb of her parents, she'd never been able to set a fin outside the glass dome the housed Atlantis.

Gura gritted her teeth in anger, her tail lashing angrily behind her as she looked around the room, her gaze settling on her trident.

With a new fury, Gura decided that she would not, in fact be marrying Prince Codface or whatever the fuck his name was. She gripped her trident tightly before opening her window, jumping out and skilfully scaling the side of the wall. She didn't care about the consequences of her actions, she just wanted to be free and find that one special person.

Gura quickly found out that the ocean was much bigger than she thought it was. The great void stretched much further onwards than the reef where small Atlanteans leaned to swim and play, something that Gura never got to do with her over protective family. But she kept going.

And by the time she reached land and breached the surface, something that felt entirely familiar and alien at the same time. The open air was much more wild than the stagnant breeze in Atlantis. It fluttered around her, whipping her bangs to and fro.

Looking around, Gura noticed there was a lot less humans than she thought there would be. Her parents and scholars always made it seem like the overworld was teeming with them, but looking around, the young shark could see maybe two from where she was standing.

But that wasn't the point! She was free. Free to do whatever she wanted. Free to find whoever would make this awful chill finally leave. In fact...

Gura froze. That cold feeling... It wasn't as strong as it had been all her life. Might the shark even say, she felt warm for the first time. Well, she felt warm anyway.

So she decided to try something.

Gura took a step inland. Not too far, but enough that Gura felt herself grow a smidge colder. She frowned. Was her soulmate in the ocean. The Atlantean really didn't feel like going too far back into its cold depths (however ironic it sounded).
