Goddammit! Were you always this fast?

Amelia growled to herself, trying her hardest to keep pace with you as your forked tail disappeared in front of her. You laughter cackled out in the surrounding area, echoing off the empty alleyways. The sound was both comforting to the detective and pissed her off to no end. Amelia just shook her head, ridding her head of the confusing noise.

"Are you even trying, detective? You were much faster last time" You poked, your shadow skipping over buildings as you ran, alternating between running on two legs to all four. Perhaps it wat this strategy that kept you four steps ahead of the detective at all times.

Amelia grumbled to herself, wondering how many times she had done this.

Well, there was the first time, roughly five years ago when she got a report of an odd looking creature snagging sweets from all the nearby shops. She had found you curled up in an abandoned building, transformed into some sort've liveable condition for you at least, along with several heists worth of chocolates and sweets. You managed to escape with almost every piece, leaving very little time for Amelia to react before you opened a portal a vanished to wherever you came from.

The next time you met was in the next city over. The detective had found you rummaging through people's backyards and houses, taking anything of value you could find. Another chase that ended with you disappearing to wherever you lived with most of the loot. The neighbourhood was not happy at that fact.

You continued this game for years, with you always getting away leaving Watson in the dust. And no matter how many times she rewound time, you always managed to slip through her fingers with a snarky remark and a shake of your tail.

Except now it had gotten out of hand. You had taken to jumping people in your imp form, clawing them beyond recognition before taking what was ever on them. From what Amelia had gathered, you could feed on the fear and pain, enhancing your own powers and abilities.

"C'mon detective! You're slipping!" Amelia scrambled over a low wall, scraping her hands on the rough material. Adrenaline coursed through her veins, powering her in the chase, keeping her determined to catch you. She wouldn't miss another time.

Amelia had taken a different approach this time, though. Instead of relying on just her athletic abilities, she had repeated this loop several times, marking out which path you would take and every time, without fail, you would always take the same path, including this loop. So she had set up traps, with the help of her seniors, Amelia was certain she'd catch you this time.

And a curse from up ahead confirmed her theories.

As she rounded the corner, she saw you struggling in a painfully looking net held up by magic that far over-powered your own. You hissed at her, eyes narrowing dangerously as you grinned maliciously.

"Hmph, I underestimated you. What are you gonna do now? Take me away to your agency? Eliminate me?" You barked a dry laugh. Amelia narrowed her eyes too.

"(Y/N). You went from simply robbery to straight up murder. You think I'm letting you walk free after this. If you're lucky, you might get artificial sunlight a few times a month after what you've done" Amelia was so sure of herself, but something glittered dangerously in your eyes as you chuckled darkly.

"That's what you think, Watson, but I've got other plans" Amelia felt her stomach drop as the net fell to the ground, your sharp claws glittering in the pale light. Frayed bits of torn rope was stuck between the little gaps between them. With no time to react, you swept your tail under the detective's feet, tripping her over.

"And you've got something I need" You pounced on her, one hand pinning hers against the ground while your felt around her pockets. Amelia felt her breath hitch as your claws brushed against her pocket watch, but it apparently wasn't what you were looking for. With a look of triumph, you pulled out a small stone the glistened red in the light.

"Thanks for keeping this safe for me, detective" You bounced a few metres away, but Amelia called out before you could leave through the portal you made.

"Are you not going to kill me? Seems like it'd be easier for you" Amelia didn't expect the response you gave her.

"Mmm, nah, I don't think I could kill you at this point. You may be an annoying detective, but you've grown on me. With your luck, I'm gonna be hanging around and annoying you for as long as I can". And with one final flick of your tail, you leapt through your portal, leaving Amelia alone.
