JAMIE's POV

The anticipation of seeing who was Bella's ex had worn off after Dillon informed me of his reputation at Hawkstone. How could Bella ever have gone out with him? And why was she so desperate for me to not say anything about us? Keeping the secret from my parents and friends that we were secretly going out was getting tiring, not to mention hiding the fact that I'd had another run in with Dillon that night of the break-into-the-school plan. I was getting more and more worried he would use that against me.

The whole morale of the school seemed to be wrong as I walked through the quad. Probably due to our unforseen loss at the game the day before. Bella was nowhere to be seen - I had something to ask her that I was getting more and more nervous about as the day went on.

As I was about to go inside, I felt an hand grab my arm and pull me around the corner which was obscured by a brick wall, allowing no one to catch a glimpse of me disappear.

"Wow you're really taking this secret thing seriously aren't you!" I said as Bella relinquished her grip on me and I dusted myself off.

"I mean it Jamie, it has to be secret." she said in a rushed tone.

"Okay! Relax, don't worry. My lips are sealed." I replied. She brushed her hair back with her hand; I noticed it looked different today, bolder, like she was out to prove a point.

"Okay, now listen. Apparently, Indira's going to the game with Dillon tonight, don't ask me why," she rolled her eyes. "but, if we can get tickets...do you want to go with me?"

"Are you kidding? That's literally what I wanted to ask you! Jeremy's trying to 'spend time with me' so he got us tickets, but I'm sure my mum wouldn't mind giving hers up."

"Are you sure? What about 'spending time with Jeremy'?"

"Yeah, well, technically i'm still spending time with him, just more of it with you." I said, our fingers interlocking. "And I'd much rather spend time with you than Jeremy."

She smiled but looked at the floor. "You should be nicer to him, y'know. He's only trying to make you happy."

"I know, but since my dad came back and left again, it just feels like..." I was cut off, the sound of a familiar voice cutting through our quiet conversation. Dillon.

Our hands quickly disconnected as Dillon leaned on the wall opposite us looking smug with himself.

"What are you two doing out here all alone?"

Bella stood up tall, trying to not look intimidated but I could sense she was nervous. "I could ask you the same question, Dillon."

He raised his eyebrows and walked over to us. "I asked first."

"I was just helping Bella with some football skills." I interrupted quickly. Dillon raised his eyebrows even further, as if to tell me to carry on, like my explanation wasn't enough for him. "There are NO BALL GAMES signs everywhere. This is the only place we could do it without being seen."

Dillon nodded his head once. I hoped this was a satisfactory enough answer. "Well you two are wasting your time. There's no way Hansard's gonna let you back on the team after what you did."

"After what you did you mean." Bella said bravely. "You told us to break into the school, we didn't want to."

"I'm sorry, I was under the impression you had a mind of your own." Dillon laughed. I'd had enough of this. I pushed Dillon to the side and walked out proudly, Bella following.

BELLA'S POV

When I got home, I headed straight upstairs to get ready. The encounter with Dillon behind the school building had been replaying over and over in my head all day. I couldn't help feeling like he had some sort of power over us.

Whilst pulling clothes out of my wardrobe, Indira stood in the doorway mockingly.

"What are you doing?" she said with a curious smile, and sat down on the bed.

"I'm going to a football game with Jamie, I don't know what to wear!" I said with anger creeping into my voice.

Her mouth dropped open with a gasp and she flopped down onto my bed, propping her chin up with her hands. "Is it a date?" she said, raising her voice at the end for emphasis.

"No!" I said maybe a bit too quickly. "It's not like we're...going...out or anything...y'know." I said, trailing off at the end and I hoped Indira hadn't heard any of my ramblings.

"Well you're not wearing these." she said with a smirk, grabbing all of my clothes from my wardrobe and throwing them on the floor, before rummaging through my chest of drawers.

"What's wrong with them?" I said, picking up the array of clothes strewn all over the floor.

"They're horrible." she said bluntly, and I pulled a face. "What?" she said.

"Nothing. It's just, aren't you supposed to help me get ready for a date? Which this isn't, It's just a day out, with a friend."

"I am helping you! By telling you what not to wear."

I rolled my eyes at her comments, but really I was grateful.

I arrived at the bustling stadium a few minutes early, so stood, patiently, outside the ticket office waiting for Jamie. I noticed two people walk past, both wearing Hawkstone scarfs and laughing with each other, and after a second glance, realised that the two smiling people were Jack and Michel, both heading into the VIP area of the stands. At this, I groaned internally, hoping there would be no drama.

"Bella!" I heard someone shout, and turned around to see Jamie, Mike and Jeremy walking towards me. I suddenly felt nervous and clutched my purse tighter in my hands.

I smiled awkwardly as they approached.

"Hi." Jeremy said. Surprisingly, he looked just as nervous as me. He smiled. "Jamie's told us a lot about you, Bella." he said, but looked as if he quickly regretted saying anything at all.

To this I just laughed, but I couldn't help wondering what he'd actually said, and whether it was good or completely denoted our relationship; if he'd even mentioned that part.

"Shut up Jez." Jamie said.

We eventually found a seats a few minutes later. Thankfully, they were in pairs, each pair a few seats away from the other, so naturally, me and Jamie sat together. As I took a sip of a drink I'd bought in the stadium, I noticed Jamie glancing around, seemingly searching for someone.

"Who are you looking for?" I whispered in his ear. Startling him, he jumped slightly in his seat and I giggled. "Sorry."

"I've just seen Les Bradgate."

"Who's Les Bradgate?" Whilst most people would have assumed that this was a perfectly standard question to ask when you don't know anything about the world of football, Jamie turned to me in shock.

"Who's Les Bradgate?" He repeated, then proceeded to answer his own question. "Only Hawkstone's top goal scorer of all time."

I raised my eyebrows and nodded in a bid to look even the slightest bit impressed/interested, but Jamie just laughed. "You have a lot to learn."

He turned back around and his face seemed to change dramatically, like he'd seen someone else, but this was different. This was someone who he'd wished he hadn't seen.

"Seen someone else you know?" I asked, looking out onto the pitch.

He turned, his face glaring straight ahead. "No one."

But he wasn't hiding anything from me. I knew he'd just seen Michel and Jack.
