Em POV:

It was now Friday, the day before my birthday. I had promised I would go to Charlie's to spend it with her, Luke, and Dale but for some reason, she didn't want to invite anyone else, maybe she just wanted to keep it small. The last couple of weeks had been agonizing, Aiden was sleeping with every girl he could and things were tense between us which didn't make too much of a difference considering he had no time for us now that he had so many girls. Things between him and Toby seemed almost even more tense than things between Aiden and me and I hated being the reason for that.

The bell had just rung for lunch so Jordan was walking me to the cafeteria, Aiden had spent the whole lesson flirting with the girl behind him but thankfully, Jordan chose not to question me about it. I assumed that Aiden wouldn't be making an appearance again today like he hadn't the past 2 weeks and again, I assumed that was because of the girl in English Lit, Maya, I think her name is.

Jordan drops me off at my usual table and the keeps walking to the bleachers where I knew that Lindsay and he spent their breaks together, Jordan and Lindsay were so exceptionally close and honestly, it was nice to see someone as pretty and popular as Lindsay protecting Jordan from all the bullies.

"Hey Mills!!" Toby grins as I take the spot beside him. Luke and Charlie join us quickly holding hands, something positive about the last couple of weeks was that Luke and Charlie were already the golden couple of the school. They were both so in love with one another and they both deserved to be happy.

Dale had also been amazing as always, I don't know how he found the time but he seemed to be spending even more time with me than he was before, he was worried about me. He was working tonight though so he would come and spend the night at mine after. Charlie and Luke were unable to spend tonight with me though which was sad but I would manage, Dale would take me there tomorrow for dinner.

My thoughts get interrupted when I see Aiden saunter in the cafeteria, surprisingly he was alone, but unsurprisingly, his hair was disheveled and his lips were swollen. I only imagined what Maya looked like.

He saunters over to us and keeps eye contact with me, he fully approaches me, gaining not only my table's attention but the whole cafeteria's.

"Hello Emily," he smirks, the cold player look in his eyes.

"Hi," I mumble, not knowing what else to say and admittedly, cowering away from the crowd of the cafeteria whose multiple eyes burned through me.

"Aiden," Toby says coldly in greeting.

"Toby," Aiden smirks mockingly.

Anger bubbles through me, Toby had been there for Aiden through absolutely everything and right now Aiden was treating him like shit. Toby deserved better and for the first time since the tracks last Monday, I didn't feel extremely guilty for being the wedge in between the 2 best friends.

"Don't talk to him like that Aiden," I say quietly, hoping that no one apart from Aiden and maybe my table hears.

Aiden looks surprised at me defending Toby and for some reason, it angers me even more.

"What you 2 are besties now aye?" Aiden questions sarcastically.

"Aiden that's not what's hap-" Carter begins to stick up for us before Toby interrupts him by standing up, a foot or so away from Aiden.

"No Carter, that's exactly what's happening," Toby says, directing his words to Aiden who looks like he's getting angrier by the second, Toby continues; "you've been nothing but a dick the last 2 weeks and she doesn't deserve it, if you weren't such an asshole to her then I wouldn't feel the need to apologize to her for my best fucking friends behavior, she's never been anything but nice and genuine and you're treating us both like absolute dog piss and it's not okay."
