I was once again thankful that I healed quickly, because I couldn't count the amount of times Keiran bit me. His blood healed me, and my skin was clear of any marring or scars. My muscles, however, were still healing, even with his blood in my veins.

Kieran looked like an incubus that just got a year's worth of feeding as he helped me clean myself up.

At least that could be said about them. My ex's never cleaned me or did any sort of aftercare. They threw a towel at me and took their shower, leaving me to wipe up and wait for them to be done.

Kieran eyed me as I slid on my clothes. We started when it was dark outside, and one look out the window told me that we'd been at it longer than I expected to be. There was a sliver of light outside, and I knew it wouldn't be long before the sun rose over the horizon and I'd have to start yet another day.

I had plans that day, oddly enough. Someone who contacted me a few years before for some medium work told me that someone else in her family just died and she had things that she wanted to say to him. It all depended on whether the guy would still be on Earth in spirit, but we'd try. I could have tried ouija boards, but I didn't fuck with ouija boards. No, sir. The one and only time I tried that, I didn't get the person I was looking for. Instead, I got a demon and some of his fucked up memories.

I tried not to think about those.

"Leaving so soon?" He followed me out of his bedroom.

I looked at him from over my shoulder. "I have a night shift nurse needing to have a conversation with a deceased relative whose spirit may or may not still be here. And if not, she wants me to raise his body later tonight. I'm hoping for the former."

I'd need to drink blood again if I had to raise his body. I wasn't really feeling like drinking any more for some time. Honestly, if he needed to be raised, I was seriously considering referring her to another necromancer.

"Also," I turned before I got to the door, "I've been here all night."

His lips quirked up. "And you could be here all day, if you wanted."

I felt my cheeks flush and I turned away from him. He grabbed my arm and turned me back around to face him before slanting his lips over mine. His hands slid around my body and he pulled me closer until our bodies were flush together.

When he pulled away, I stared up at him, probably looking more like a fish opening and closing its mouth than something sexy.

He grinned, then let me go. "I'll have someone drive you. Let me know when you're home."

I saluted, like I was some sort of freaking military cadet, then turned and half-ran out of his house. His laughter followed me outside, and I had half a mind to flip him off before the door shut all the way.

When I got to Mariah's house, she was already sitting outside waiting for me. The last time I came to do medium work for her, the spirit was sitting right beside her, so the fact that I didn't see anyone didn't bode too well with me. If we couldn't get in contact with him, I'd have to call the closest necromancer and make up some bullshit excuse as to why I couldn't raise a body.

They all knew I had the ability to raise the dead over and over again as long as I had that blood supply, so lying and saying I couldn't do it because of that reason was a no-go. Also the person I'd call was kind of an asshole.

I stepped out of the car, telling the vampire at the wheel to give me a minute, since I knew it wouldn't last long, and smiled when Mariah stood and walked over to me. She wrapped me in a hug, thanking me for coming.

"I'm not sensing, or seeing, a spirit around here," I said gently, after we shared hello's and how are you's.

Her smile fell slightly before she caught it and forced a laugh. "Oh...he already left? Of course he'd leave me to talk to thin air."

I smiled at her, knowing she needed that instead of pity. I didn't know who it was she was wanting to talk to, but it seemed to hurt her knowing he was actually gone.

"If you want to speak with him tonight," I said, leaning against the car, "I can get in contact with a necromancer I know who can come and raise his body for you. Unless you'd be fine with waiting until tomorrow."

Her smile fell again, but this time she didn't pretend to laugh it off. "You can't do it today?"

"Unfortunately not." I sighed. I didn't want to get into it if I didn't have to.

"Is this other person a friend of yours?" She looked sad, and I almost said I'd do it regardless, but decided it would be better if I didn't.

"I wouldn't say he's a friend." I shrugged. "There are only sixteen necromancers in the United States. We all live in different states, except for two who I think both live in California. He's the closest one, next to me."

He lived about three hours away. If he was getting paid, he wouldn't care about taking the drive out. He also wouldn't care that I'd be the one calling him.

Money speaks, and all that.

She nodded somberly. "It needs to be today."

"I'll contact him and give him your number," I said.

She thanked me, and I felt somewhat bad about having to pass her off to Adler. He wasn't a bad guy. He didn't like me at all, but he'd do his part because that was the type of person he was.

I watched her go back inside before sliding back into the car. I puffed out a breath and pulled my phone out when the vampire put the car in gear and began driving.

"What," Adler asked instead of the normal hello.

Well, fuck you too, I thought. "I'm going to be out of town and someone needs a body raised tonight. Are you able to do it?"

He was silent for a moment. "You won't be there?"

"No," I answered. "Like I said...I'm going to be out of town."

"Then yes," he said, and I rolled my eyes. Fucking assholes, the lot of them.

It always reminded me why it was I didn't feel like I belonged anywhere. I wasn't really human, so the humans wouldn't claim me. I wasn't fully a vampire, so I wasn't part of a clan. And I was too vampire to be considered a necromancer amongst my peers. If I could do it again, I wouldn't have shown them what I was capable of.

"I'll text you her number and address," I said.

"Okay," he replied. "Then I want you to lose my number."

"As much as I'd love to," I cooed, "you know I can't do-"

"Yeah," he cut me off. "But a guy can wish."

Then he hung up.

I blew out a breath and dropped the phone in my lap. The vampire driving eyed me for a moment before his eyes went back on the road, and I had a feeling Kieran was going to be hearing of that conversation after I got out of the car.
