I sighed and ran my hand over my face. This whole mess with Jason going missing was not only making my pack restless, it was making me lose sleep. I didn't work well on no sleep. Something about it made me irritable, and the fact that Kyler felt we needed to enlist the help of some half vampire no one had ever even heard of was ridiculous.

Because why the hell would she help us? I've never met her, none of my pack has met her. Who would go out of their way to help a stranger? I sure as hell wouldn't, but what other options did I have? I couldn't go to Kieran directly, and I sure as hell couldn't ask one of his vampires and expect them not to tell him.

So half-vampire it was.

The emotions running through my pack had kept me up for weeks. I was running on empty, and my brain was barely functioning enough to keep my pack running, let alone keep myself running. I had to keep up this front that I had everything under control when I, in fact, had nothing under control.

I stared at her house, tapping my fingers on the steering wheel. Maybe I could think of something else. The more I thought about it, the more ludacris this idea was. But I couldn't turn back. I came too far. I was sitting outside her house like some psychopathic stalker, for Christ's sake.

I got out and walked to her door. Then I just stared at it.

And for some godforsaken reason, I lifted my foot and kicked the door in. Completely off its hinges.

"What the fuck," a voice from inside screeched.

My sentiments exactly. Why knock when you can just, oh, I don't know...break the door?

When she came around the corner to see - in her words - what the fuck I'd just done, I stopped breathing completely. Her sapphire eyes were narrowed in anger, her dark hair was pulled up into a messy bun, and she wore an oversized t-shirt with some leggings. She was obviously dressed for comfort, rather than company, but...

But why did I find that attractive?

I blinked, shaking myself out of it. "I need your help."

"And I need my door to not be broken," she shot back. "The fuck?"

I could have explained the whole not sleeping thing and the fact that I did things without thinking most of the time when I had no sleep...but, she probably wouldn't care.

"Can I come in," I asked instead.

She stared at me for a moment. "Yeah, sure. Make yourself at home, Alpha."

Apparently she was being sarcastic, because the moment I stepped inside, she shook her head, an exasperated look on her face. When I raised my eyebrows, she threw her hands up and walked back to where she came from.

I followed, because how much worse could this get?

She stood on one side of an island counter, so I took up the other side, trying to give her space. She knew who I was, surprisingly. So at least I didn't have to go through that explanation.

"My sentinel was taken and I'm worried he might be in trouble." I said. "With you being a vampire, I wanted to see if you could gather intel for me. See if the master of this city took him for any reason."

"No," she said.

I stared at her, taken aback by the outright refusal. I mean, sure I broke her door, but good lord. That was the quickest refusal I'd ever gotten in my damn life. No questions were asked. No thought was put behind her answer. Just fucking no.

"Why not," I asked, more confused about the sheer lack of give a shit that she possessed.

Maybe next time I needed help, I'd knock.
