I watched from my office as the DJ set up for the night, making sure everything was plugged in and his sets were where he wanted them to be. He wasn't the normal DJ, but the normal was out sick and he recommended this guy.

The bartenders and bouncers walked in, chattering to one another as they got themselves ready for the night. I didn't have to go down there. I made sure everyone I hired did their job and did it well. They all knew I'd fire them if they messed up.

I gave two chances. Two, because one mistake is something to learn from, and three is too many.

I turned my chair back around and powered on my computer, then pulled up the financials for the month. Luckily, we were above the necessary percentage, so I could give the long-time workers their bonus for the month.

I hadn't even realized the time, or how long I'd been working on the club's banking. But suddenly there was this urge tickling the inside of my brain, making me want to turn around and look out at the club.

It was the same every night. People danced, some moved on to the blood sharing area, some didn't even bother hiding the fact that they were having sex in the middle of the dancefloor.

There was a rule about that. I didn't expand the place years ago to add a blood sharing room just for people to fuck outside.

I raised my eyes from the screen of my computer, staring off to the other side of my office, waiting for that itch to go away.

I wanted to turn around and look down there. To see...

To see what?

I sighed and turned, standing from my chair and walking to the window. My eyes scanned the dance floor - same old shit - but then my eyes were drawn to the bar.

I knew about her - being the master vampire, I knew about all vampires in my territory. But she didn't have a clan. No master. I'd question the existence of a sire if it hadn't been for the fact that I researched her thoroughly.

I couldn't quite make out the color of her eyes in the darkness of the club, but I knew they were sapphire. Such a deep blue the ocean couldn't even compare to them. Her blue-black hair was straight, and I clenched my fist next to me.

I'd never seen Nova in person. I only saw her through photos taken the day I requested any and all information I could get about her. She wasn't a threat. Not to me, at least. But I had to make sure.

She smiled at something my bartender said, pulling away her phone that she'd held up. Then she looked apprehensive, her smile faltering just a bit. I wondered what she was thinking about. What my bartender said. Why she froze.

Nova smiled again, though in a way that even I could tell that she was uncomfortable.

What the hell did Lilly say to her to make her look like that? Fuck two strikes.

I was moving before I even realized what it was I was doing. Through the blood sharing room, not even glancing at any of them even if they said hello, and into the club. My eyes were trained on Nova.

"I wouldn't think a place like this would suit you, Nova," I said.

She stiffened at the sound of my voice, though almost unnoticeable if I hadn't been paying attention to every fucking move she made.

I rested my hand on the bar top and she turned. Her eyes looked almost black in the club's lighting, but shined when a ray of light passed over her face. They trailed over me, much like how mine moved over her. Her curves. Her hair that I wanted nothing more than to wrap in my fist as I-

When her eyes met mine, I smirked.

"I was about to leave," she said, and her voice almost immediately made my cock rock fucking hard.

That would have been embarrassing.

"Why's that," I asked.

She tapped her fingers on the glass of her drink nervously. She was hiding her emotions well enough through her face, but everything else was tense. Nervous.

'What's happening here,' I mind-linked to Lilly.

'Stood up by that werewolf who was seeing Selene,' she answered through her mind, knowing I was listening.

I hummed and leaned closer to her. I could hear the blood rushing through her body at our proximity. "Stooping so low as to meet up with a werewolf. Where have your priorities gone, Nova?"

She laughed sharply, the tenseness melting away to anger. Good. At least she wasn't nervous anymore.

"My priorities are none of your concern," she said. "I'm not yours in any form of the word. Whether I want to meet up for a quick fuck with a werewolf or not, that's none of your business."

I grinned. So she was a brat. I loved that. "I guess not. But how did that go for you? Think he got cold feet and decided a mere half vampire couldn't do it for him?"

Now, I was not expecting the slap that cracked against the side of my face. Nor was I expecting the sudden urge to grab her, turn her over my knee, and spank her senseless. But that wouldn't happen.

Yet.

I tilted my head, feeling the burn against my cheek lessen as the seconds passed. "Hit too close to home? Why don't you try a vampire instead?"

She slammed a twenty on the bar.

Why was she paying for water? What bar charged for water?

"No," she answered as she slid off the barstool. "I'd rather raise the dead and fuck that than to ever stoop so low as to fuck a full vampire."

I couldn't help it. I felt my lips curl into a grin, feeling an urge I hadn't felt for a long while as I looked at her. I wanted to have her. It was as simple as that.

"We'll see," I murmured as she walked away, and my eyes trailed down her body.

When she flipped me off, I had to suppress that urge once again to punish her.

Soon, I promised myself. Fucking...soon.
