I couldn't bite him. Not yet, at least. The after effects of his bite were still rushing through me, and I felt like I just went fifteen rounds in a bed with some sort of superhuman. My entire body was next to useless, and I could only sit there and stare at him.

He smiled, knowing damn well what I just felt and how good it felt. Celibate people could go to vampires to get their rocks off and not worry about actual intercourse.

When I did get control over myself again, I cleared my throat, mentally apologizing to Lucian. He heard all of it, if he was even still listening. Or maybe he decided the plan was a miss and left me.

That would have sucked, because he and Kenna were my ride there.

"I know you still have questions," he said. "Go ahead and ask. We'll get to the next part after I answer them."

A part of me thought he'd completely disregard why I came and hide it under the guise of teaching me how to be a vampire. I was glad to know that wasn't the case.

"You said you knew why I was here," I said.

"Back talk and I'll have you bite me now." He raised his eyebrows in challenge. "Although I wouldn't mind, I don't think you'll be in the right frame of mind to ask questions after you finish."

I didn't know what that meant, and I wasn't sure I wanted to. I knew I'd find out that night though. I doubted he'd let me leave until I did.

I'd have to seriously apologize to Lucian later.

"I'm not clingy in any sense of the word," I started. "But I am worried about the guy I was supposed to meet last time. He hasn't even read any of my messages. They're all showing delivered and received."

He nodded for me to continue.

"I heard that he was seeing one of your vampires," I said. "I'm not sure what her name was, but I don't know if you've ever heard of Jason?"

I saw the recognition in his eyes. "Yes. I actually met him not too long ago. He frequented here a lot, and this is where he met her. But I haven't seen either of them in quite some time."

"Did they run off together or something?" I laughed like it was a joke.

"No," he said. "I had questioned at one point whether that was the case, but the longer it takes for her to come back, the more I'm questioning whether he took her."

I blinked, suddenly confused. "Took her?"

"Kidnapped her," he reiterated.

He thought Jason kidnapped his vampire? Turn that around and Lucian thought the same exact thing about Kieran's vampire.

Well that wasn't good.

"Do you still think that?" I wasn't sure what questions I needed to ask anymore. The effects of the bite were worn off completely, overtaken by absolute dread.

I didn't want to believe it. I truly didn't. But what if there was a third party at play and they took both Jason and Kieran's vampire?

"A part of me does," he said. "But a part of me questions it since he made plans to meet with you."

He didn't make any plans to meet with me, but there was no freaking way I'd say that. Not this far into it. That would be the equivalent of digging my own grave and I was not about to do that.

"Then," I prompted, motioning for him to say what I knew he was keeping back.

"Nova," he sighed, "as much as I'd like to let you in, the only thing you are in this equation is a possible lover for a missing man. You're not a part of my clan, and you're not mine to confide in."

I expected that response.

"I'm taking care of it." He leaned back against his desk and crossed one ankle over the other. "Whether he took her or someone else took both of them, I'll figure it out."

I had nothing to say to that. If I asked more questions, it would be suspicious. If I made it seem like I was overly interested, it would be suspicious. Anything else I did would make him question me, and neither I nor Lucian needed that.

So I stayed quiet.

"Come here," he said.

I stood from my chair and walked over to him.

He grabbed and moved me so quickly that I almost screamed. I was face-up on his desk with him above me, hands braced on either side of my head as his eyes bore into me. His body was between my legs, pushing my thighs apart to accompany his size.

He lowered his head and placed it on the table beside mine. "Do it."

"Why," I asked, like some sort of idiot. "What if I'm not interesting anymore afterwards?"

He let out an amused laugh. "You'll always be interesting to me, Nova."

I looked at the pale skin of his neck, which was so smooth that it almost looked airbrushed. He wouldn't let me leave until I did as I was told, I knew.

Naomi would have a hay day when I told her this shit.

I ran my tongue over his throat, coating it with my saliva like he'd done. While mine was a little less practiced than his, I still heard a small grumble of approval when I sucked at his skin as he'd done to me.

Then I slid my fangs into his skin and his hips jerked against me as he hissed out a breath I knew wasn't from pain. His hands moved from above us to grip at my thighs to tightly that I would have bruised, had I been human.

I swallowed a mouthful of his blood.

"Fuck," he hissed. "I want to bite you."

I knew what that would entail, so I made a noise of disapproval.

"I know." His voice was so hoarse, and I wondered what his face looked like. Would his eyes look like they did when he bit me, or would they look different, now that he was on the receiving end?

Both sides were pleasurable in its own sense. But the receiving end was definitely more so. Blood sharing was pleasurable for both sides of the equation, in equal parts.

I saw that now.

I moved my head away from his throat and watched as he struggled to hold himself back from his urges. When he raised himself up, his face was flushed with an expression I never thought I'd see on him. Usually calm and composed, he looked like he was about to burst at the seams.

He cleared his throat as he stood. "You certainly have the ability to make it pleasurable, Nova. More so than I've felt in a long time."

He still looked like he was about to attack me, but the strain on his face told me he was holding himself back. The normally teasing tilt of his lips were gone, replaced with something I couldn't understand. He looked somewhat stressed.

"Did I answer your questions?" The topic shift was like whiplash. He went from drinking my blood, to somewhat answering the questions I came here for, to me drinking his blood, then back to talking about the reason I came to begin with.

"Not really," I said, finally standing. The blood I drank began swirling in my stomach, releasing the hormones that told me I needed to leave as soon as possible or both of us would be holding back those urges. As much as I liked the fact that he was struggling, I gave into my urges too quickly and readily.

He glanced at me from the corner of his eye, as if sensing the change. "Let me walk you out."

I nodded, mentally thanking him for not pushing me to stay when he knew what the blood did to me.

Maybe he wasn't so bad after all.
