"First paper's due Monday and I've written two words. My name."
- Spencer HastingsWe were all walking in the woods trying to clear our heads... well at least I was. "Who's idea was this again?" Hanna asks as she turns to me.
"Don't look at me." I say as I put my hands up in surrender. She just scoffs and turns around. "Emily's mom." Spencer replies.
"The shed was me. My mom just said we should do something for us." Emily says as we continue to walk through the woods.
"Well, couldn't we do something without mosquitoes?" Hanna asks as she tries to swat them away. "They're not mosquitoes, they're gnats." Aria corrects her.
"Whatever! They're small and annoying, and they're flying up my nose."
"Well, they're attracted to your perfume. And your hair product. And your lip gloss." Spencer says making us all chuckle. "So, what are you saying, I attract flies?" I just roll my eyes at her. "Yes Hanna. That's exactly what she's saying." I say sarcastically.
"Gnats." Aria says correcting her again. "Why do I feel like this is the wrong way?" Emily says making us all stop our tracks.
"No this is it. I remember that tree." I say as I cross my arms and point to it. "It's the halfway point. There's 136 steps left to the shed." Spencer finishes off.
I raise an eyebrow at her confused. "You remember how many steps we have left to go?" I ask confused. "Have you guys been out here since... Alison?" Emily asks ignoring me.
"Me?" I say as I point to myself. "No way." I say as I cross my arms. "Spencer?" I ask as I turn to her. "No. No way." She says shaking her head.
"But you guys remember that tree." Aria asks in disbelief as she points to it. I just roll my eyes at her as I put all of my weight on my right foot.
"You guys it's not weird. I mean we came out here in 8th grade like, everyday... even after." Hanna says defending us.
"I think this is the totally wrong place to do this. Whatever you call it... shrine." Spencer says as she crosses her arms. "Doing it way out here makes it look like we have something to hide." She adds on.
"You're worried about what other people think?" Emily asks confused. "Wouldn't you be?" I ask as I look at her. "I mean. Do you really want to give that creepy detective more reasons to question us?" I ask worried.
I sigh as Hanna just walks past us making me exchange glances with the other girls. "Hanna? Why are you so quiet?" Emily asks as we catch up to her.
"I'm trying to keep the bugs in my nose and out of my mouth." She says as she continues to walk forward. "You're allowed to have an opinion on this." Emily says making Hanna stop her tracks.
