44: Flustered

Taehyung stands by the fish aquarium tank outside Jungkook's office. The ravenette isn't here yet. Taehyung had to record the song that he would be releasing on his birthday so he came to the office early. Since he is already done with it, he wanted to see the ravenette but when Chaerin told him that Jungkook will come in a few minutes, he decided to wait.

So here he is, outside Jungkook's office, staring at the fish aquarium, admiring those beautiful and colourful fishes. "Do you like fishes?" He hears a female voice and he is sure that it's Chaerin.

"I never thought about them but I think I like them now. They are cute." Taehyung says.

"Yes, they are."

"I like their colours too." Taehyung says, lightly tapping at the aquarium and making the fishes scared. When they start swimming away from the glass quickly, he giggles. Chaerin smiles at Taehyung. She cannot ignore the fact that Taehyung is actually very cute and now she is sure why her boss is so whipped for him.

"Taehyung-ssi, do you have a pet?" She asks, wanting to continue the conversation with him.

"No, but I might consider getting an aquarium."

"My advice is that you shouldn't."

"Why?"

"You travel a lot. You can't carry an aquarium with you and take care of the fishes. Get a dog or a cat instead." Chaerin says. Taehyung nods, knowing that she is right. Since the time Jungkook told him that he doesn't like Chaerin the way he likes him, he tried to be less jealous of her and now he feels like Chaerin is actually a sweet person.

"Ummm... Miss Park?" He calls her softly. He just feels like he should apologise to her for his bratty attitude.

"Yes, Taehyung-ssi?"

"I'm sorry." He says. Chaerin looks at him with confusion so he says, "I'm sorry for acting so bratty and rude with you. You didn't deserve it. I was just... I just..."

Chaerin laughs at his nervousness, "You were jealous because I'm close to Jungkook oppa, right?" Since Taehyung's focus was on how to form proper sentences, he doesn't pay attention to Chaerin and faintly nods but when he hears the girl giggling, he realises what he just did. His eyes widen and he immediately says, "No. No, that's not the case Miss Park."

"Sure, Taehyung-ssi." She says trying to suppress her laughter. Taehyung mentally curses himself for making a fool out of himself.

"Taehyung-ssi, I always wanted to tell you this but you weren't... exactly fond of me so I couldn't talk to you." Chaerin says. Taehyung feels embarrassed but he is also curious as he wants to know what she has to say to him.

"I don't like Jungkook oppa in a romantic way. He is... he is my cousin, Taehyung-ssi." Chaerin's words surprise Taehyung. He didn't expect this.

"I'm his father's... biological father's niece. We are really close and he was the only one I had when I was going through a hard time. I love him a lot but only as a brother. Also..." She blushes a little before continuing, "I have a daughter. She is four years old and... I'm getting married soon."

Taehyung is speechless. He smiles a little and says, "That's... that's amazing. Congratulations! And I'm sorry... for misreading the situation." He says. Chaerin laughs and says, "It's okay. Misunderstandings happen but always remember that communication is the key."

Taehyung nods. He already knows that. Heck, on a lot of events, he has himself mentioned how important communication is. While interacting with fans through Weverse or in fan meeting events, he explained how communication can save lives but he himself never communicates. He believes what he sees and chooses not to talk about it. He decides to change this and give people the right to explain because things always end up badly when he doesn't listen to others.
