Chapter 54

"How the fuck did you manage to put salt and sugar into the same container? How are we supposed to cook, you dumbass?"
"Love, I obviously didn't do it on purpose-"

"Didn't you read the bag?" he goes silent.

"I'm going to search your pantry. Stay here, and don't make a mess." I walk into the pantry to look for the salt and I hear a crash. What the hell happened?

I rushed outside immediately. He spilled all of the pans out on the floor. I raise an eyebrow.

"How in the WORLD did you manage to make that happen?"

Noah is silent.

"I'll help you pick them up. Come on." I tell him and we pick up the pots and pans and neatly restack them. After picking them up, I send Noah into the living room to pick out a non-horror documentary. I thankfully found a spare can of salt after he finished mixing up the salt and sugar. Noah's a real genius. I finish cooking simple lentils with some spices and some rice and bring them out to the table for us.

"Love that smells fuckin amazing." Noah tells me, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"Thanks. I made this lentil soup and rice. This one is called dal, and the other one is called rasam. I also made this spicy potato curry, it's calle aloo fry. It's my favorite thing ever."

"Love, this looks amazing! I can't wait to eat!" He says, staring at all the food.

"Thanks!" I say, grinning.

"You didn't mix up the salt or sugar this time, did you, love?" he asks me. I thwack him on the head.

"Ow! What was that for."

"In case you didn't remember, you're the idiot who mixed up the salt and sugar?"

"I'm not an idiot."

"Yes."

"No."

"Ouch. You're so violent." I huff and put some rice on my plate. I stick my tongue out at him.

I show him how to put the dal and rasam on his plate with the potato fry and we eat.

"Shanaya, that was so good!" He leans back in his chair.

"I'm glad you liked it! My mom actually makes the best food. She taught me how to make it. Whenever I go home, she always makes it for me. It's kinda like my comfort food."

"Sounds so nice. I'm sure she's wonderful."

"Oh, she's the best. My mom is amazing. She's the kindest, most honest, and loyal person you'll ever meet. I'll take you to meet her over the summer sometime, okay?" I tell him.

"I'm sure she is. I can't wait." He places his hand on top of mine. My cheeks go red.

"Stupid cheeks," I mutter and look down.

"Which one?" Noah asks cheekily. I smack his arm.

"This is called abuse."

"No it's not."

"Yes it is."

"Noah, that's not abuse."

"Yes."

"Shut up."

"No you shut up." I smack him again.

"Fine, I'll shut up." He huffs and rolls his eyes. I'm suddenly thrown over his shoulder. I smack his butt.
